Chandigarh, July 13
As part of its third anniversary celebrations, Fortis Heart Institute and Multi-Specialty Hospital at Mohali today announced the launch of a special education campaign on heart ailments.

According to Dr Achintya Moulick, Chairman, of cardio-vascular sciences at the hospital, a WHO study has revealed that the world average of the incidence of heart disease is 1.5 per cent and the Indian average is 3 per cent. In Punjab it rises to 6 per cent. Current estimates reveal that over 5 million people die of heart ailments in India every year. As part of the special education campaign, Fortis will hold a series of education camps all over the region and will also undertake the angiography procedure at a cost-to-cost price of Rs 5000 (the usual cost is Rs 9900) during this campaign.

People from India have the highest incidence of coronary artery disease in the world. The rate at which heart attacks occur in the population is going up. Over the past few years, studies have revealed that there has been a three-fold increase in the number of patients with heart disease in the country, of which nearly 16 per cent are below the age of 40.

“At Fortis”, Dr Moulick said, “we are committed to educate the people about the increasing incidence of heart disease in the region and especially Punjab. It has been observed in apparently healthy young people, risk factors associated with heart disease usually go unrecognised and untreated. In such situations one should look at ways of preventing heart disease and stroke. Angiography is the final and conclusive procedure for confirming coronary artery disease of the heart and it is also necessary to determine the kind of treatment to be given to the patient”.

Dealers in electronic goods fined
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, July 13
The Electricity Department today imposed fines on Sector 35-based dealers in electronic goods, saying that the electronic goods kept for display would also be taken into account while sanctioning power load. Interestingly, all goods on display are never operated at the same time. Thus, the question of consuming more power than the sanctioned load does not arise.

Dealers in electronic goods have objected to this, saying that power load is sanctioned on the basis of usage. They say all goods on display do not run simultaneously.

Teams of the department, which came to check shops, calculated the load on the basis of the number of power points. Another dealer said, “We have to keep TV, audio and DVD systems connected to power points so that these can be switched on at the demand of customers. Does the department expect that we will have only one power point and move the TV and audio systems to that power point each time a customer comes. Does this seem viable,” he asked.
