Uppal appointed Principal

Dr Savita Uppal, MA, M.Phil, Ph.D has assumed the charge of Principal, Swami Ganga Janata Girls College, Raikot.

Dr Uppal was Head of Music (Vocal) Department, Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana, and she is associated with this college for the past 21 years. Dr Savita Uppal obtained degree of M.Phil, from Delhi University in music and Psychology and obtained her Ph.D from Himacal Pardesh University in Raaga Bhairavi under the guidance of Dr C.L. Verma.

Dr Uppal has written two books on music for students and has recorded two cassettes under re-series on devotional songs and Punjabi boliyan. Her students have won many prizes in TV programmes. She has been member of Board of Studies and Faculty of Punjab and University, Chandigarh. Dr Uppal has been honoured by many social organisations about her achievements in the field of teaching and music.

Swami Ganga Giri Janata Girls College, Raikot, is being run by the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha and is imparting education to rural children up to postgraduate level.

Students hold demonstration

Ludhiana, July 14
A large number of former students of Sant Missionary College staged a demonstration in front of the college building in Field Gunj here today. The were protesting against the non-issuance of certificates to them. They claimed they had completed courses, but the college authorities refused to give them certificates.

However, the college Principal, Mr Harbhajan Singh, said the allegation was false. It was a sort of blackmail by some students who were thrown out of the institution on disciplinary grounds, he added. Sahibzada Jujhar Singh Missionary College, Ropar, Gurmat Gian Missionary College, Mata Sahib Kaur Gurmat College and the Sukhmani Sahib Sewa Society have condemned the action of the students.
