Free classes at fashion institute

Ludhiana, July 16
The Ivanna Institute of Hotel and Fashion Technology, a PTU Distance Education Learning Centre, conducted free demo classes for students. They were told about the working pattern of distance education followed by PTU, especially in the streams of hotel management and tourism and fashion technology.

Around 57 students attended the workshop today.

Hotel industry in India was creating a need for more and more professionals. Similarly, fashion industry in India was new vistas of jobs in the public and the private sectors, said Ms Manjit Sodia Director of the institute.

The purpose of conducting the workshop prior to admissions was to help students make a right choice about their career.

DMCH extends visiting time

Ludhiana, July 16
Dayanand Medical College and Hospital has extended visiting hours. The new visiting hours will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 pm on Monday to Saturday. The visiting hours on Sunday will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 pm to 8 pm. TNS

Cricket trials from July 19

Ludhiana, July 16
The Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) will conduct trials to select the Ludhiana teams here at the Arya College for Boys ground on July 19 and 20, respectively.

According to Mr Vinod Chitkara, honorary general secretary, LDCA, for the forthcoming Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Tournament (u-22 years) to be organised by the Punjab Cricket Association, trials will be conducted on July 19 at 4.30 pm. Players born on or after September1, 1982 are eligible for these trials.

Meanwhile, trials to shortlist the players for Inter-District Cricket Tournament for the Katoch Shield will be conducted on July 20 at 4.30 pm. Interested players have been asked to contact Mr Naresh Marwaha, joint secretary, LDCA at the venue on respective dates.

Sports fraternity hails Sodhi’s appointment

The sports fraternity here has hailed the appointment of Gurmit Singh Sodhi as the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Punjab.
Members of various sports associations have hailed the decision of the Chief Minister for selecting Maharaja Ranjit Singh award winner and former international shooter Gurmit Singh as the Sports Minister.

In different press notes issued here today, office-bearers of sports associations have expressed happiness over Mr Sodhi’s taking over the independent charge of Sports and Youth Affairs.

Those who hailed Mr Sodhi’s appointment include Mr Balraj Sharma, general secretary, Punjab Swimming Association, Mr Raj Kumar, honorary secretary, Punjab Volleyball Association, Mr Teja Singh Dhaliwal, general secretary, Punjab Basketball Association, Mr P.N. Passi, secretary, Punjab Throwball Association, Mr Vinod Chitkara, general secretary, Ludhiana District Cricket Association, Mr R.S. Behal, secretary, Ludhiana District Badminton Association, and Dr Rajinder Chawla, secretary, Ludhiana District Chess Association.
