Implement 85th Amendment, says teachers’ union

Mandi Ahmedgarh, July 18
The SC/BC Teachers Union has threatened to launch an agitation to impress upon the Union Government to implement the 85th Constitutional Amendment regarding reservation for SC/BC employees.

Addressing a union gathering at the local Children’s Park, Mr Malaghar Singh and Mr Gurmail Singh Chandhar, president and chief organizer of the state body of the union, said the union would hold rallies and stage dharnas at the division level from August 5 in case the amendment was not adopted.

Mr Darshal Singh Ballowal, state organising secretary, and district-level office bearers, including Mr Harbans Singh Jogimajra, Mr Gurmail Singh Jagera, Mr Mewa Singh Mehmi, Ms Avtar Kaur, Mr Major Singh Kaddon, Mr Sikander Singh and Mr Harpal Singh, were present on the occasion.

Role of trees highlighted

Mandi Ahmedgarh, July 18
A seminar on “The importance of the trees in preservation of environment” was organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Kanganwal. Mr Vijay Sharma, Senior Manager, Punjab National Bank, Kanganwal branch, chaired the seminar. It was attended by members of the panchayat and the sports club, besides students and staff of the school.

Mr Sharma called upon the students to conserve the environment and save the interests of the coming generations.

Mr Bhupinder Singh Bath, Principal, said the plants were the only organisms which could trap the energy of the sun.

Palvi, Sukhdeep Kaur and Sandeep Kaur, all students, were honoured. Earlier, saplings were planted. OC
