AS we make rapid strides in technology, there is a growing need for institutions that can not only provide quality education but also guide and give students an edge in a competitive world. The Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology (MAIT), Delhi, one such institute, was established by the Maharaja Agrasen Technical Education Society in 1999. The society is promoted by a group of well-established industrialists, businessmen, professionals and philanthropists with the aim to promote quality education in the field of technology. N. K. Garg, Chairman of MAIT, says, "A lot of students in the region, especially girls, wanting to take up technical education had to turn to institutes in the South, which were costly as well as far off. But after the Delhi Government's decision to open IP University they have an option closer home." Courses: MAIT offers Bachelor of Engineering in four branches--Information Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Mechanical and Automation Engineering. These four-year programmes are affiliated to Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University. Infrastructure: The state-of-the-art campus has modern facilities with a number of specialised laboratories, well-equipped lecture halls, tutorial rooms and computer centre. Besides, the institute has an excellent library facility with a large collection of books on various technical subjects. Placement: The institute has a separate placements, training and development cell that invites industries/companies for recruiting engineers on the campus. Besides, this centre also identifies and updates students on career opportunities. Faculty: All faculty members are well-qualified, senior people mostly from the Delhi College of Engineering, NSIT, BITS & IIT. The teacher-student ratio in the institute stands at 1:15, in accordance with the AICTE norms. Eligibility: To get admission in any of the undergraduate technical course, a combined entrance test is held by Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University. According to IP University officials, the fee structure in self- financing institutions varies from Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 per annum, including security deposits. Sports, athletics & yoga: The students are encouraged to participate in all activities organised by the institute. Facilities like cyber club, in-door/out-door games, CAD club, photography and publications are available. Special arrangements have been made for yoga, stress management and meditation classes by experienced teachers. — MKS
