Sohana hospital awarded certification

Mohali, July 24
The Sohana Eye and Multi Speciality Hospital has been awarded the quality management system certification ISO 9001:2000 for providing medical services in ophthalmology, dentistry, urology, skin, orthopaedic, general medicine, ear, nose and throat, pediatrics, anaesthesia, general surgery, gynaecology and obstetric patient along with pathological and radiological services.

According to a press note issued by the hospital authorities today, a joint accreditation system of Australia and New Zealand have found the hospital's medical services in line with international requirements as laid down in the latest and revised international quality management system standard ISO 9001:2000.

This was decided after an audit conducted by a team of doctors and quality system professionals. All systems starting with the registration of patient to the satisfaction level of the patient after treatment were checked and found to be as per the requirements of the international standards. The hospital management has stated that by getting certified for ISO 9001:2000, the hospital to become a global benchmark in the field of provision of medical services.

Health Minister’s plea to civil surgeons

Chandigarh, July 24
While speaking at a workshop on the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, Mr D.S. Guru, Secretary, Health Services, Punjab, today said as many as 1128 ultrasound centres had been registered in the state and 94 cases registered against the violators of the Act.

Mr R.C. Dogra, Minister, Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, speaking at the workshop urged the civil surgeons to be more active while dealing with ultrasound centres. He said sex-determination tests and selective abortions of female foetuses had tarnished the image of the medical profession. He said “Balri Rakhya Yojna” would be launched in the state soon.

Others who spoke at the workshop were Mrs Razia Sultana, Parliamentary Secretary, and Dr K.K. Sharma, Director, Health Services and Family Welfare.

Javed Miandad gives tips to budding cricketers

Advising young cricketers on the value of strict discipline in sports, renowned Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad here today said that cricket is a easy game but one needs to work hard to get good results. Miandad had a brief session of nearly 15 minutes with more than 150 young cricketers of the DAV Senior Secondary School coaching centre in Sector 8. He was in city as part of a promotional campaign of the Zee group.

Miandad said that tomorrow’s Asia Cup tie would be a crucial one and predicted a good match. He said Pakistan players were ready to take risk and they would perform to their optimum level.

Earlier in the day, Miandad visited the first SMS winner Hem Raj Rana in Sector 22. In the evening, he appeared live on Zee TV, answering questions from audience at Sukhna Lake.

At DAV School, it was an exciting experience for the youngsters who had been waiting anxiously for the cricket legend on the school premises. Miandad was garlanded by Mr Ravinder Talwar, Principal of the host school, SAI coach Sukhinder Bawa and various cricket players.

Javed answered to questions of young on various nuances of the game. He spoke on various do’s and don’ts for cricketers. He said cricket is a mind game and unless a player is totally involved in the game, one cannot expect a good performance.

Miandad said the batsman’s main aim should be to concentrate on ball only. He asked cricketers not to lose temperament while playing. Patience helps a player in getting good results.

He appreciated the cricket infrastructure at DAV school and praised the initiative of Mr Talwar and his team in running the coaching centre. Mr Talwar told Miandad about the international cricketers of India like Kapil Dev, Chetan Sharma, Dinesh Mongia, Yuvraj Singh, who got coaching at this centre.

Miandad had earlier visited Jaipur and he will leave for Delhi tomorrow for his onward journey to Ahmedabad.

Little Flower boys win cricket tourney

Chandigarh, July 24
Little Flower Convent School, Sector 14, Panchkula, got the better of Satluj Public School, Sector 4, Panchkula, by nine wickets to emerge winner in the under 16 section in the Panchkula District Inter School Cricket tournament held here today. Batting first, Satluj school boys were all out for 111 runs in 19 overs. Raja Dhingra scored 23 runs while Vivek made 20 runs. Shankar and Sahil Bansal of Little Flower school claimed two wickets each. In reply, superb batting by Nitish Bhardwaj and Sahil Bansal who hammered unbeaten 46 runs and 38 runs, respectively, helped in achieving the target with still nine wickets in hand.

In the under 14 section, Satluj Public School boys, however, won their tie when they outplayed Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 7, Panchkula, by 36 runs. Satluj school boys won the toss and opted to bat first. They made 119 runs. Tanveer scored 32 runs. In reply, GSSS-7 were bundled out for 83 runs. Vivek scored 31 runs. Himanshu of Satluj school bagged three wickets. Tomorrow Satluj school boys would play with Hansraj Public school, Sector 6, Panchkula in the semi-final.

Panchkula athletics team

A 30-member strong contingent comprising 11 girls have been selected to the Panchkula District Athletic team, which will take part in the XIXth Haryana State Athletics championship to be held at Sports Complex, Dabwali (Sirsa), from July 31 to August 2. This was stated by Mr I.D. Kamboj, president, District Amateur Athletic Association, Panchkula.

The team is: girls: Kritika, Manjeet, Rashmi, Manju (Junior), Kavita, Mamta, Manju (Senior), Pooja, Geeta and Shikha.

Boys: Vaibhav, Kuldeep, Rohit, Sandeep (Junior), Ajay, Baldev, Navin, Mohit, Sandeep (senior), Arvind, Manjinder Singh, Bijender Singh, Rajesh, Rajnish, Surender, Sumit, Sarvhom Malik, Krishan and Jaswinder. Mr Jagdish Chander will be the manager of the team.

Rashpal, Shweta lead in chess tourney

Rashpal Kaur and Shweta were declared joint leaders with three points each at the end of the second day of the UT Women Chess Championship-2004 held today. The point wise position is as follows, three; Rashpal, Shweta; two ; Rishu, Rupinder, Aashna, Pallak, Roohi and Kritika Dhupar. One: Tasmeen, Kritika Sehgal, Upasana, Shikha, Ravneet. 0.5: Srishti Jain and Amanpreet.

Tarun wins boxing bout

Tarun of SD College, Sector 32, knocked out Amirender Singh in below 54 kg section on the first day of the 28th Chandigarh State Boxing championship held here today. In other bouts of the day, in below 51 kg section, Amit beat Jai Hind while Sandeep downed Sunil Josan. In below 57 kg section, Ajay Pal Singh defeated Satish Chander while Azad Singh won from Nikhil Srivasatava. In below 64 kg section, Dinesh Kumar beat Jitender Singh while Ranveer Singh defeated Manpreet in below 81 kg section.
