Lakhanmajra, July 27
Four members of a family, including two women and a child, were brutally murdered and another member was seriously wounded at Lakhanmajra village, 19 km from Rohtak, late last night.

Six masked men reportedly came to the house of Ranvir Singh on motor cycles around midnight. They climbed the wall of the house located at the end of a street and forced their entry into the bedroom where the owner, Ranvir Singh (48), and his wife, Bimla (42), were sleeping. The miscreants shot them in the head.

The culprits also inflicted injuries on them with sharp-edged weapons to make sure that they did not survive.

The assassins then went on the roof where Ranvir Singh’s son, Amardeep (26), and his wife, Seema (22), were sleeping along with their son Rahul (2). Amardeep and Seema were shot in the head. Rahul was also shot and his body was thrown down from the parapet. His dismembered body was found in the courtyard.

Taking Amardeep to be dead, they tied wounded Seema to a cot, sprinkled petrol over her and set her afire.

Amardeep was found alive when the police arrived at the scene after about three hours. He was shifted to the Rohtak Medical College Hospital for treatment where he is reported to be in a critical condition.

The entire village is in panic. Shops at the bus stand here remained closed today. Few residents ventured out of their houses due to the fear of repercussions in case they revealed anything to the police. An elderly resident, who lives in a nearby house, said he had noticed six youths making rounds of the street yesterday afternoon. However, nobody suspected anything, since triple-riding in villages is common place.

He said to his knowledge, the family did not have enmity with anyone in the village.

Unconfirmed reports said one of Ranvir Singh’s brothers who lives nearby, saw flames on the roof of his brother’s house. He went there but the miscreants threatened to shoot him. He reportedly locked himself inside his house after that.

The police has not yet been able to identify the culprits. The cause of the crime was also not immediately known. But investigating officials said they expected a breakthrough soon.

This is the second crime of this type in the area within this month. Two weeks ago two members of a family were similarly murdered at Farmana village in the dead of night. However, in that case the motive was clear as one of the family members was involved in the murder of a gangster at Sonepat a day earlier.
