IG to probe graft charge against senior cops

The Inspector-General (Jalandhar Zone), Mr S K Sharma, has decided to personally investigate the allegation levelled by a suspended ASI of the Ludhiana police that certain senior officers of the city police have been taking money on a weekly or monthly basis from junior personnel.

Inquiry into custodial death acquits cops

The Jagraon district police has acquitted officials of ChowkiMann police station of the charges of torturing a resident of Ajitwal village to death and later cremating his body in a clandestine manner.

Farmer alleges harassment by PSEB staff

Baljit Kaur, wife of deceased councillor Mastan Singh, has alleged that her husband was murdered by his business companions. According to sources, Mastan Singh, a former councillor, was working as a property dealer at Mundian Kalan village.

Property dealer found murdered
Ludhiana, July 28
Gurbachan Singh (45), a property dealer from Chaunta village, was allegedly stabbed to death on Monday night by unknown assailant(s), who after committing the crime took away his motor cycle and some cash on his person.

PAU scientists have said that rice crop is under severe water stress due to drought like situation in Punjab. However the major diseases of rice like bacterial blight, sheath blight, sheath rot, stem rot and the insect pests, are not going to affect the crop.
