On July 23, the court had stayed the demolition of towers erected by Hutch. In its petition, the company had stated that it had received some notices issued by the UT Administration, asking it to pull down its towers in residential areas. However, no show-cause notice was issued by the Administration. The company also claimed that it was being singled out by the Administration in questioning its towers. She has done her schooling from Kendriya Vidaylay, Sector 31-D. She started her career as a host in ‘Kahiye to’ along with Raj Verma on Zee TV. It is an interactive programme through which viewers decide whether to develop the story or to cut it short. Talking about her experience in the media Anmol said she was impressed by the quality of professionalism. She believes in enjoying life. I never took any formal training in mass communication but right from childhood I love talking.” I was like a tom boy. Instead of playing with dolls I used to play basket ball”, she said smilingly. She feels that taking criticism in a positive way can improve us a lot”. When asked if she ever gets bored from her busy routine. She said, “I hardly get any time to think or feel about boredom. Neglected children are emotionally weak: psychologist
Reshma, said, “whenever he comes back from the school he tells everything that has happened in the school or how he enjoyed with his other friends”. It is good if your maid is motherly towards your child. She is an asset to stressed mothers who try to meet the pressure at the home and the office. But these days maids are playing the part of mothers. A maid can fulfil all functions which a mother is supposed to do. She can feed, play and can keep him occupied throughout the day so that he or she does not feel lonely. Sadhna leaves her home at 10 am and returns at 8 pm from the ICICI Bank so that she could look after her year-old son. “Though we are not happy with reduced money flow, yet there is a satisfaction on one count. My child is happy now. He had become quite imitable and unhappy. Moreover, he needs me the most. When he will start going to school, I will look for another job,” she adds. A 27-year-old Sunita, mother of one-and-half year old, too wants to quit her government job but cannot do so. “We have a large family to support. Average monthly medicare expenditure on my aged father-in-law and mother-in-law is quite huge. Moreover, if I quit, I won’t be able to get a government job,” she added. A city-based computer engineer Shweta Rawat has a more positive approach towards life. “My maid really loves my son, Shantanu, like her own. He is also happy in her presence. This gives me a lot of satisfaction. I am confident that in my absence he is looked after well.” A city-based psychologist Monika Singh feels that children who are neglected in their childhood are emotionally and mentally weak. The first seven years of a child are important because it is during these years that the foundation is laid. Others members of family apart from the mother, can help give a child healthy and happy environment. Husbands and grandmothers, particularly can step in to give relief to stressed mother. For those working mothers who have no option but to depend on maid she has a suggestion. The maid should not be indifferent. It would be good for a child if she is able to form an affectionate bond with the child. But in some of the cases maids just cannot give the loving environment to the child which a mother can give. Children who are brought up in a happy and loving atmosphere become peaceful and happy individuals. OC |

Make your child iron fisted
Anaemia is a ‘democratic’ disease. Whether you are from economically weaker section or from the affluent class, it can strike both. Surprisingly the reasons are quite similar, malnutrition and lack of balanced diet. While the poor are not able to afford a good diet, the rich, due their fondness for ‘doodh and ghee’ or junk food, do not eat a balanced diet having adequate amount of leafy or green vegetables, fruits, cereals and other food groups. Anaemia occurs when the haemoglobin levels in the blood decrease or the quantity of red cells in the blood decrease due to worm infestation, lack of balanced diet (nutritional anaemia), infection, blood loss due to injury or genetic disorders
(thalassemia). As many as 70 per cent children in India are anaemic. This disease is more prevalent in North India due to excessive preference for milk in that region, says Dr RS Bedi, a Chandigarh-based
paedritician. Milk is a poor source of iron. Also in the presence of calcium the absorption or iron is hampered. Dr Bedi says the intelligence level of the child is directly proportional to the anaemic status of the child. Symptoms of anaemia are irritability, lack of appetite, fatigue, loss of weight, repetitive infections, delayed milestones (if an infant crawls, sits, stands, walks later than the normal period). In cases of acute or severe anaemia, enlargement of heart (which may cause heart failure) and spleen can occur. Indian women are also prone to anaemia. At least 60 to 70 per cent of rural women and 30 per cent of urban women are anaemic, says Dr Umesh Jindal of CMC. Nutritional or dietary anaemia is one of major reasons. Deficiency of folic acid and B12 also cause nutritional anaemia. Vegetarians are an easy prey as a vegetarian diet is a poor source of iron. The natural iron present in vegetables and cereals cannot be absorbed readily by the body because of presence of phytates ( vegetables) and oxylates (cereals) in them. Food fads, especially among adolescent girls, is another major reason. There is an increased demand for iron during pregnancy. The haemoglobin (Hb) level of a pregnant woman should be between 10.5 to 17, while in a non-pregnant woman the Hb level should not be below 11. Mild or borderline cases of anaemic deficiency can be treated through corrective diet and no supplements are required, says Dr Neelu Malhotra, diet consultant. However, for moderate and severe cases medical consultation is a must. Lack of green leafy vegetables or excessive inclusion of refined cereals and other processed foods, low in many minerals, including iron, may also cause anaemia. The recommended daily allowance (RDA) for kids for leafy vegetables is at least 28 gm. Also animal proteins are better sources of iron than vegetable proteins. Organ meats like liver, especially mutton liver, lean meat, eggs, fish, poultry, dry fruits, legumes, rice flakes, green leaves of fenugreek, mustard (sarson saag) coriander, mint, arbi, spinach, til seeds, millets, dates, soya bean almonds, dry prunes, almonds, mangoes, water melon, muskmelon, black gram, pista, cashew nuts, raisins, amla etc. are rich sources of iron.
