DMC team wins paediatrics quiz

Ludhiana, August 5
Dr Sanjeev and Dr Anil Gautam, postgraduate students of Dayanand Medical College (DMC) here, won the top honours in the divisional round of the seventh Postgraduate National Neonatology Quiz organised by the Department of Paediatrics of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) at the Dumra Auditorium last evening.

Dr B.K. Jain, divisional coordinator and president of the state branch of the National Neonatology Association, supervised the programme in which five teams from different medical colleges in the state participated. Dr Daljit Singh, Principal of DMCH, appreciated the efforts of the Paediatrics Department in organising the event. Dr J. Whig, Vice-Principal of DMCH, and Mr Satish Sanwalka, treasurer of the managing committee, were among those present on the occasion.

Team of two PG students each from Government Medical College, Amritsar, Government Medical College, Chandigarh, Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, PGI, Chandigarh, and DMC went through several rounds of questions related to child health.

While the top spot went to the host team, the contestants from Government Medical College, Amritsar, Dr Bharti Singla and Dr Rupinder Singh, stood second, followed by Dr Subhash Ganu and Dr Shailendra Mehta from PGI, Chandigarh, who secured the third position. The teams from CMC, Ludhiana (Dr Sonia Mehra and Dr Rosy Aulkah) and Government Medical College, Chandigarh (Dr Ajay Kuamr and Dr Sita Ram) were placed at the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

Students given advice on dental hygiene

Ludhiana, August 5
A free dental and medical check-up camp was organised at Harsh Vidya Mandir, day-boarding school in New Subash Nagar here, today with assistance from Dr Sarabjeet Singh Arora. Dr Puneet Sehgal and other doctors checked the teeth of students and gave them advice on dental hygiene and care. The president of the school managing committee, Mr D. P. Sharma, manager Meena Sharma and principal M. L. Jain thanked the doctors for their effort to create awareness about dental care and prevention of seasonal diseases.

Alumni association: A meeting of the executive committee of the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women (Gujjarkhan Campus) Alumni Association was held here under the presidentship of Dr Anup Kaur Bansal, principal of the college, in connection with the publication of a directory of the old students. The members decided to have more such meetings to establish links between the old and new students. Old students also volunteered to help poor and needy students. It was decided that the annual alumni meet would be held in September.

Aero-models: A spectacular show of aero-models was organised on the grounds of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School in Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar here on Thursday. NCC (Air Wing) cadets of 4 Punjab Air Squadron, under Sq Ldr P. P. Singh, displayed breath-taking aerobatics by aero-models, line control and radio control, parasailing, static models and a working model for defending the Indian waters.

Foundation day: Spring Dale Senior Secondary Public School, Sherpur, celebrated its 23rd foundation day on Thursday. The entire school was beautifully decorated. Speeches on school activities and achievements in various fields were delivered in English by Sakshi, Class X, in Hindi by Babita, Class X, and in Punjabi by Anirudh Puri, Class XI. Staff members and students appreciated the upgrade of the school to senior secondary (+2) level.

Ms Avinash Kaur Walia, principal, stressed upon the need for the students to take initiative in activities organised by the school and other reputed bodies. She said that the school would celebrate its silver jubilee on next year in a grand manner.

Outcome of science workshop in book form

Ludhiana, August 5
Dr Kirpal Singh Aulakh, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, will release a book, 'Gyan Vigyan Parkash' on August 13 at 3 PM in his committee room.
Dr Sarjit Singh Gill, additional Director of Extension Education, said the Centre for Communication, Languages and Culture had organised a five-day workshop last year with the collaboration of Punjab State Council for Science and Technology and the Department of Science and Technology in order to spread the scientific knowledge through radio and television. The book will contain the deliberations of the event.
