Abohar, August 6
Over 200 acres of agriculture land was flooded following a major breach in the Malookpura distributory here early this morning. Farmers said the authorities had increased discharge in the sub-canal to save other areas from flood.
Officials were unable to plug the breach till the news last came in. The water was spreading towards villages, according to the residents. The breach, fifth during this year, was likely to damage the cotton crop that had been soon again after the previous breaches.
The state government had raised the height of the side walls of the sub-canal to increase the capacity in 1997.
