Chandigarh will be ours, says Amarinder

The Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, today added a new dimension to the on going political controversies in the region.

Addressing a gathering of students, teachers and other academician at Guru Gobind Singh College for Girls here, Capt Amarinder Singh said “he was hopeful the Chandigarh, would be transferred to Punjab soon”.

He said Chandigarh was capital of Punjab and the state had a right over it. Moreover, its transfer was part of the Rajiv-Longowal accord. He even told students that City will go to Punjab. However, when asked whether he had made a fresh effort in this connection, Capt Amarinder Singh’s answer was no.

Speaking after inaugurating a newly built students’ centre in the college, Capt Amarinder Singh said the Government had signed an MoU with Quark, a multinational company, to set up an information technology park at Ropar in over 3,700 acres. Initial formalities such as transfer of land, etc. had been completed. He admitted that financial constraints had become hurdle in the development of the state.

Earlier, Mr Gurdev Singh, Mr Bharpur Singh, both senior office bearers of the Sikh Educational Society, also spoke and appreciated the stand taken by Capt Amarinder Singh on the river waters issue. The Chief Minister also released a book “Katha -Kahani” authored by Dr Man Singh Nirankari.
