With trains on hold, bus operators make moolah

With the trains remain cancelled, the bus operators have been trying to make best of it. Sources in the transport industry revealed that during the past one week the business had increased by several folds. The operators have pressed more buses into service as it has been generating a lot of business.

Body exhumed, relatives allege foul play

Youth commits suicide
Ludhiana, August 12
A young man allegedly trapped in an illicit relationship with a middle-aged woman, who was also a mother of five children, allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at his house in New Subash Nagar today afternoon.

3 wheat varieties released

Punjab Agricultural University has recommended three varieties of wheat-PBW-502, PBW- 509 and TL-2908, developed by the scientists of Plant Breeding Department, for sowing in the state. This decision has been taken in the meeting of Punjab State Seed Approval Committee, held under the Chairmanship of Dr Ajmer Singh, Director of Agriculture, Punjab.

Proud bearer of Olympic torch

Ludhiana, August 12 It was the moment of greatest joy for Ludhiana- born Puneet Gupta when he carried the Olympic Torch in Lausanne, Switzerland, on June 24 as part of the Athens 2004 Olympic Torch Relay. The torch relay is going to culminate tomorrow at the Panathenian Stadium in Athens for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
