New Delhi, August 14
The Centre today decided to send a team of experts to Lepcha, the place where Parchu enters India from Tibet, following information that water level in Parchu had increased by two-and-a-half feet in the last 12 hours.
The team, comprising experts from the Central Water Commission, Surveyor-General of India, Geological Survey of India, National Remote Sensing Agency and a representative from Nathpa Jhakhri Power Project, will visit the site tomorrow.
Cabinet Secretary B.K. Chatwurvedi today held a meeting of top officials to assess the situation following threat of flood in Satluj owing to formation of lake in Tibet on Parchu tributary of the river.
Official sources said the meeting decided to maintain maximum alert along Satluj banks and review the situation on
Monday.
