Shivangi of Gurdaspur and Ajay Pal Singh of Mansa have been named
captains of the girls' and boys' teams, respectively, for the 31st
Sub-Junior National Basketball Championship to be held at
Thiruvananthapuram from August 23 to 28, according to Mr Teja Singh
Dhaliwal, general secretary, Punjab Basketball Association. Punjab
contesting left for Thiruvananthapuram today.
The members of the Punjab teams were given kits at a function held at Guru Nanak Stadium here today. Mr Gurpreet Singh Toor, SP (Detective) and president, Ludhiana Basketball Association (LDBA), was the chief guest. Mr Toor, along with other office-bearers of the association, wished the players good luck for the meet.
Others who were present at the function included Mr Sohan Lal Lotey, District Sports Officer, Mr Vijay Chopra, vice-president, LDBA, Mr J. P. Singh, secretary, Zila Parishad, Ludhiana, Dr S. Subramanian, senior coach and former director, NIS, Patiala.
The following boys and girls comprise the Punjab teams for the national meet. Boys-Ajay Pal Singh, Sukhjit Singh, Gursewak Singh and Sukhdeep Singh from Mansa; Harmeet Singh, Manjeet Singh, Vikramjot Singh and Tejinder Singh from Bathinda; Richard and Akash Gill from Ludhiana ; Rajan Sharma from Moga and Nikhal Kumar from Jalandhar. Mr Rajinder Singh Gill and Mr Nirbhay Singh will accompany the team as coach and manager, respectively.
Girls-Shivangi, Chetana and Rohini from Gurdapur; Mandeep Kaur from Ludhiana; Karamveer and Beant Kaur from Mansa; Harmanjot Kaur and Usha Rani from Bathinda; Balpreet Kaur from Muktsar; and Harpreet Kaur and Usha Rani from Faridkot.
Mr Gurjinder Singh and Ms Neelam Singh will accompany the team as coach and manager, respectively, while Mr Vijay Singla will be the contingent in charge.
