Three killed in police firing

Diphu (Assam), August 21
Four persons were killed, one in police custody and three in subsequent police firing on a mob protesting against the death, in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, the police said.

Following the death of a suspected thief in Baithalanshu police station, a mob of Tiwa community from the nearby areas gheraoed the police yesterday and started attacking them, injuring two policemen. The police opened fire, in which two persons died on the spot. Following a search today, the body of another person, who had sustained injuries in the police firing and subsequently escaped, was found in the nearby fields. — PTI
