Jobless teachers to observe
strike on Sept 7 Ludhiana, August 23 The unemployed teachers said they would take out a protest
march. The march will pass from various markets of the city and will conclude at the residence of Education Minister Harnam Dass Johar. Office-bearers of the union said the teachers working on contract basis had also extended their support to them. Unemployed teachers are opposing their selection on contract basis in government
schools. It was held under the presidentship of Jaswinder Singh Sidhu, President of the Unemployed Elementary Teachers Union, Punjab. The teachers said they would keep on struggling till their demands were accepted. They added that a large number of unions and associations in the state were supporting their long-pending demands. Office-bearers of other teacher union and associations also attended the meeting. They included Ranjit Singh Batth, President of DIET, Jaswinder Singh Bhullar, President of the Nav Niyukt Elementary Teachers Union, Democratic Teachers’ Front, Government Elementary Teachers Union and various other unions. |

GNIMT students
participate in national-level quiz Our Correspondent Ludhiana, August 23 This quiz brought undergraduate colleges, top business schools and corporate players on a common platform. About 1,000 teams from all over India, including IIMs, IITs, various universities, colleges and corporate houses, participated in it. The GNIMT teams cleared the preliminary round, but could not rank among the top 10 teams selected for the finals. Mr Pranab Mukherjee, a renowned quizmaster who has conducted 600 quizzes all over the country, hosted the quiz. The GNIMT participants, Rajat Sareen and Vishal Sharma of BBA (first semester) and Jasleen Singh and Pooja Suri of MBA (first semester) were selected for the contest on the basis of a preliminary screening test conducted at GNIMT on August 13. They were then given requisite training for the contest. Mr Pranab Mukherjee addressed the participants and gave them tips for becoming knowledge masters. History quiz: The History Society of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujjar Khan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, organised a quiz on Sikh history.Six teams participated in the contest. Four teams advanced to the written round. Team A, comprising Amandeep, Ravneet and Kanwaljit, all BA II students, stood first. Namita, Jagmeet and Sheetal, students of BA I, (team C) stood second. Students of BA II, Inderjit, Anu Aheya and Amandeep and students of BA III Divya, Kanwaljit and Parveen (team B) stood third. Ms Adarsh, Head of the History Department, and Ms Indu encouraged and appreciated the students. Ms Manju Chawla, Vice-Principal of the college, gave away the prizes to the winners. Psychology fair: A week-long psychology fair “Tryst with self”, organised by the students of the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, commenced on Monday.It was inaugurated by the college Principal, Dr Anup Kaur Bansal. Students from other colleges are also participating in it. In her inaugural note, the Principal appreciated the efforts of the students. |

launch green campaign Ludhiana, August 23 The teachers, who include Mr Jagjit Singh Mann, Mr Baljinder Singh Ratipur, Mr Harjit Singh, Mr Lakhwinder Singh, Mr Amitpal Singh and Mr Sudhir Chand, have already started a campaign among the students and their parents trying to motivate them to plant as many trees as they can. |
