Chandigarh Academy subdue Hawks

Chandigarh, August 24
The Chandigarh Hockey Academy scored its second successive victory making its entry to final almost certain in the third SN Vohra Memorial Sub-Junior Hockey Tournament for Boys Under-14 played here at Sector 42 Hockey Stadium.

In the second semi-final league match the Chandigarh Academy defeated Hawks Academy of Ropar by two goals which helped its increase its points tally to six with an all win record. The Chandigarh Hockey Academy scored two goals within five minutes. Dharambir Singh struck with a field goal in the 49th minute. Later Sandeep Singh further consolidated it with another goal in the 54th minute. Jaswinder Singh of the Hawks Academy was declared the Player of the Match.

The Sukhchain Academy of Faridkot tasted its first win in the semi-final league as it outplayed the Gopal Academy of Kurali by 4-0 after leading 1-0 at half time. This win gave it three points from two matches. The Gopal Academy has not won so far from two matches. Rakesh Kumar converted a penalty corner in the 13th minute for the Sukhchain Academy. Later it scored three field goals through Jasranjit Singh (31st minute) and Varinderjit Singh (42nd and 44th minutes).

Tomorrow’s fixtures (semi-final league): Sukhchain Academy vs Hawks Academy (2.30 pm) and Chandigarh Academy vs Gopal Academy (4 pm.

Sanjay Public School wins trophy

Sanjay Public School, Sector 44, bagged the overall trophy with 18 points in the Chandigarh Inter-School Judo Championship for Boys under-14 played here at the Sector 42 Sports Complex. Government Model High School, Sector 43, was declared runners-up while Government Model High School, Sector 34, finished third.

Results: below 25 kg: Nilesh Sharma (GMHS-34)1, Pankaj (GMHS-31)2, Vickey (GHS Dadumajra)3, Neeraj (GMSS, Ramdarbar) 3.

Below 30 kg: Ashish (GMHS-43)1, Chandan (St Stephen’s 45)2, Deepak (GMHSS-21) 3 and Ishwinder Pal (AKJPS-41) 3.

Below 35: Jaswinder (Sanjay Public-44) 1, Govind (ISDS-21) 2, Ronit Verma (GMSSS-21) 3 and Amarnath (GMHS-42) 3.

Below 40 kg: 1 Varinder (Sanjay Public-44), 2 Mohit Verma (GMHSS-21), 3 Atul (DAV-8) and Karan (GMHS-34) 3.

Below 45 kg: Sandeep (GHS-40)1, Mandeep Singh (SPS-44) 2, Sunil (GMHS-34) 3 and Prabhjot Singh (GMHS-39) 3.

Below 50 kg: Vijay Sharma (GMHS-43)1, Bhanupartap (AKIPS-41)2, Youshuf Khan (GMHS-39) 3 and Sandeep Sharma (GHS-40) 3.

Above 50 kg: Kuldeep Kang (Sanjay Public School-44)1, Ramandeep Singh (GMHS-34) 2 and Amit Kumar (GHS-11)3.

Football matches end in draw

Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, had a draw against Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 23 , 2-2 in the Chandigarh Junior Girls Football Championship for St Stephen’s trophy played here today at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45.

In other tie, defending champion St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, had a goalless draw against Sacred Heart School, Sector 26. All teams shared one point each.

Earlier in the GMSSS-35 and GSSSS-23 tie, the latter was the first to open the account in 10th minute when Pooja scored with solo efforts. However, in 17th minute, right winger Richa Walia equalled the game. After half time, for GGSSS-23 it was Pooja again who scored the second goal in 35th minute.

It was the turn of right striker Jasdeep who further helped in equalising the score in 40 th minute. Tomorrow, the matches will begin at 9.45 am.

Carrom tournament

DAV Public School, Sector 8, claimed the under-19 carrom title in the UT Inter-school Carrom (girls) Tournament played here today at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45.

The under-17 final was bagged by St Joseph’s School, Sector 44, while St Kabir School, Sector 26, clinched the under-14 title.

CLTA team win title

Kinshuk Sharma and Jitin Bishnoi, both trainees of the CLTA Coaching Centre, won the doubles title in the ITF Junior (Grade-4) Tennis Tournament held at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, from August 18 to 22.

As per information reaching here with the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association, both defeated the pair from Kyrgyzstan in straight sets 6-3, 7-6. In all the previous matches they outplayed their opponents and did not drop even a single set.

Asia Billiards

Anil Sharma and Aman surged ahead with easy wins in the Haryana State Nine Ball Pool Championship being played here at the Asia Billiards, Sector 34. Results are: Anil Sharma b Kapil 7-4; Deepak Goel b Ashish Gupta 7-4; Ajay Singla b Harjot 7-5; Aman b Mayank 7-4 and Anand b Vishal Mor 7-2.

UT Admn shuffles officers

The Chandigarh Administration today carried out a minor reshuffle of middle-level officers and appointed two new Subdivisional Magistrates (SDMs).

Ms Padmini Singla, a UT cadre IAS officer, who is on her first posting, has been appointed SDM (East) relieving Mr Naresh Narwal of the charge. Capt Preet Dev Singh Shergill will be the new SDM (South) relieving Mrs Madhavi Kataria of the charge. Capt Shergill will continue working as Controller, Printing and Stationery, and also as AIG, Prisons.

Ms Singla has also been handed over the work of the Registering and Licensing Authority, which was with Mr Narwal. Ms Singla will also be the Joint Director, Food and Supplies, Nodal Officer, Education Programme, and Secretary, Red Cross. All these works were handled by Mrs Kataria. Besides, Ms Singla will also relieve Mr Inderjit Singh Sandhu as Joint Director, Agriculture-cum-Agri Census Officer; Joint Director, Rural Development and Panchayats-cum-CEO, Zila Parishad, and Joint Chief Electoral Officer.

Mr O.P. Popli, Director, Transport, and Mr Arun Sekhri, Joint Commissioner, MC, will swap places.

Mrs Kataria will be the new Secretary, Chandigarh Housing Board, relieving Mr S.P. Arora, DPR, of the additional charge.
