Workshop on investor awareness

Doraha, August 27
A workshop on awareness among investors was conducted by the Commerce and Economics Association of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, in association with the Ludhiana Stock Exchange and the Securities and Exchange Board of India in the seminar hall of the college, yesterday.

Mr J.S. Arneja, Senior Officer, LSE, spoke on “Invest with knowledge, rights and responsibilities of Investors” and “Recent developments in the Indian Capital Markets”. He stressed that the investors can invest in the security markets provided the decisions are backed by sound fundamentals.

Prof Gursharanjit Singh, Head of the Postgraduate Department of Commerce, introduced the resource person. Mr Balwant Singh Pangali, Secretary, college Management Committee shared his experiences with the audience. Prof G D Sharma, highlighted the need for creating awareness among investors in the fast-changing economic scenario.

More than a hundred students of M.Com and B.Com classes participated in the workshop. Students and faculty members of the commerce department took active part in the discussion. The question-answer session was held in which the role of investment bankers, and the benefits of bonus shares to the investors was discussed at length.

Present on Principal Jaswant Singh Gill presented the vote of thanks. Among others who were present on the occasion were Dr R.S. Gupta, Prof J S Grewal, Prof Ranjeet Kaur, Prof Amandeep Grewal and Prof Mandeep Kaur.

Education board holds competitions

Ludhiana, August 27
Block-level competitions were held at Central Model High School (unit 2), Palam Vihar, near Daad villager, Pakhowal Road, under the chairmanship of Ms Jaswant Kaur, Block Officer Primary, Pakhowal.

Students of primary classes from various schools of the block participated in folk songs, declamation, drawing, fancy dress, and best handwriting contests.

Results:

Shabad Gayan — St. Bawra Public High School 1, Central Model High School 2; fancy dress — Sonam Narang (in the guise of Rani of Jhansi) 1, Ravinder Kaur (in the guise of a Punjaban) 2 and Jaskirat Singh (in the guise of Khalsa) 3; folk song — Divya Jasra 1, Akshay Ahuja 2; handwriting — Ankush Garg and Vimal were placed in first and second position.

In the declamation contest, Bhrigu Sofat and Shriya Mishra stood first and second.

In drawing, Sukriti Khurana and Sukhdev Singh stood first and second, respectively.

Ms Jaswant Kaur, Block Primary Education Officer, Pakhowal, and Ms Hemant Shamra were the judges. The competitions concluded with a vote of thanks and singing of the National Anthem.

Picnic organised: Pearls Nursery School organised a picnic for students at Leisure Valley on Friday. Apart from dancing and eating, students played games like musical chair and passing the parcel. Rhymes were also recited by tiny tots. Rakhi celebrations were another attraction.

DMCH senior students welcome freshers

Ludhiana, August 27
To welcome the new batch of MBBS students at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital here an introductory function was organised at the Dumra auditorium here today. It was attended by the freshers along with their parents, senior batch of undergraduate medical students, faculty members and members of the managing committee of the DMCH.

The programme started with the rendering of a welcome song by the 2003 batch. Dr Sandeep Puri, Medical Superintendent, DMCH, conducted the stage.

Dr Daljit Singh urged the students to attempt to do their best.

To add some colour to the function seniors presented a cultural show.

Mr Dharaveer Bector, vice-president, Mr Amrit Nagpal, secretary, Mr Satish Sanwalka, treasurer, and Mr Balraj Kumar, Mr Gian Chand Dhawan, members of the managing committee, Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, MS (P), and Dr Jagdeep Whig, vice-principal, were also present on the occasion.

Tiny tots show dancing skill

A solo dance competition was held today at KVM Civil Lines, here.
LKG and UKG sections participated in different dances and came up in colourful dresses.

Principal Mr S.C. Saxena gave away the prizes. The result are: LKG — Yashvi Jain (I), Nishtha Saggar and Riya Sood (2), Sainyam Malhotra and Evneet Kaur (3), Gunreet Kaur consolation.

UKG — Gayatri Gupta and Raashi Kalia (I), Ranvir Singh (2), Nandini Jain (3) and Aashna Kakkar and Shradha Sabherwal were given consolation prizes.

2 city students make it as directors

Ludhiana, August 27
Sonal Thakur and Trisha Mukherjee, two local students, were thrilled on hearing the news that they had been selected as directors for children's’ Hungama TV channel.
They had gone to Mumbai in August for the trials. Forty children from 10 cities had been shortlisted in this regard.

When asked both said their dreams had come true. Sonal said they had been given an opportunity to put their talent to use. Trisha said she wanted that meaningful serials should be made.

Sonal in the juniors' and Trisha in seniors’ category have been selected as captains(directors) of Hungama TV. The prospective captains were selected by a jury which included singer Palash Sen, Indi-pop band Aasma, Miss India-Universe Tanushree Dutta and cricketer Vinod Kambli.

The venue of the contest was set up in a bus. The participants had to participate in four rounds.
