Educate villagers, says Deputy Commissioner

Mandi Gobindgarh, August 29
A seminar on “Rural development through education”, in association with the District Education Department, Fatehgarh Sahib, was organised at the Desh Bhagat Institute of Management and Computer Sciences here on Friday. Nearly 125 heads of high and senior secondary schools from government and private schools participated.

The chief guest, Mr S.K Ahluwalia, Deputy Commissioner, Fatehgarh Sahib, emphasised on the development of rural masses through education. “It is the moral duty of all teachers to educate the people and get them aware of their rights”, he said.

Mr Sandeep Hans, SDM, Amloh, was also present.

Mr Roshan Lal Sood, president, District Gazetted Education Services Association, Dr Zora Singh, Chairman of the institute, and Ms Shalini Gupta, Director of the institute, addressed the participants.

Students told about Raksha Bandhan

Tiny-tots of Kiddies Paradise, Kochar Market, celebrated ‘Raksha Bandhan’, in a unique way- here today. The students were excited about the gifts they received.
In the school premises they were taught how to perform Rakhi pooja. They also made greeting cards and rakhis and sang songs.

Director Randhir Singh appreciated students’ efforts on making colourful rakhis and told them about the importance of Rakhsha Bandhan.

A tree-plantation’ drive was also held. Vice Principal Gurpreet Kaur told the children to plant at least one tree and keep the environment clean and pure. Tiny-Tots also pledged to nurture at least one sapling (plant ) in their homes.

Talent hunt: A talent hunt contest was held yesterday at Ramgarhia Girls College, Millerganj, Ludhiana. The contest began with a ‘shabad gayan’ ‘Deh Shiva Bar Mohe Ehe.’ All items like dance, mono acting, skits, choreography were prepared by the students themselves.

NCC rank: The President Dr Abdul Kalam has awarded honorary rank of Chief Officer, NCC to Principal, R.S. Gill, the then ANO of Guru Nanak Public School on the 54th Anniversary of the NCC. This is the first ever such rank awarded to an NCC Officer of the Junior Division, Air Wing, ever since Independence in the Punjab Directorate.

The rank was conferred upon him by Sqn. Ldr. P.P. Singh on August 25, 2004 at a ceremony at Civil Hospital.

Talent party: Intersection talent hunt competition of fine art was organised at Malwa Central College of Education on Saturday. At least 48 students participated. The judges for the event were: Ms Bably Singh, Ms Babita Arora and Mrs Rajni Bala.

Juniors welcomed: A welcome party was organised by students of MA (Economics) for juniors on Friday. The party started after “jyoti prajavalan”, Junior students presented a fancy dress show. The seniors, too, gave a good performance Prof. Mohd Saleem, Head of the Department, asked the students to keep up to the ideals of the college.

Accident claim cases settled

Ludhiana, August 29
The District Legal Services Authority yesterday organised a Lok-Adalat to settle motor accident claim cases, under the supervision of its Chairman, Mr Baldev Singh, District and Sessions Judge.

Cases pertaining exclusively to the Oriental Insurance Company were taken up. With the co-operation of insurance company’s officers, Darshna of Balmiki Mohalla, Sahnewal, heaved a sigh relief when her case was solved. Her husband, Raj Kumar had died on October 25, 2001 following injuries in road accident. She had filed a petition seeking compensation. She was granted along a compensation of Rs 3, 60000.
