Thiruvananthapuram, August 30
Mr Oommen Chandy was unanimously elected Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Kerala tonight, paving the way for a smooth change in leadership and his installation as the 19th Chief Minister of the state.
The 60-year-old Mr Chandy will take the oath of office in the forenoon tomorrow along with his Council of Ministers.
Briefing newspersons on the CLP meeting, AICC General Secretary Ahmed Patel said the exact time of the swearing-in would be decided later, as per the convenience of Governor R.L. Bhatia. Asked about the size of the new ministry, Mr Patel said it was the prerogative of the Chief Minister.
The UDF government would still have a tenure of about 20 months. The UDF has 100 MLAs in the 140-member House.
