Fight
against terror on PM’s US visit agenda
New Delhi, July 16
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today
expressed confidence of strengthening the strategic relations with the
US both in the context of bilateral and global fight against terrorism.
In a statement here before departing for Washington, Dr Manmohan Singh
observed that “as the world’s two largest democracies, we have
common values and interests.”

infiltrators killed in North Kashmir
Srinagar (Jammu), July 16
At least 13 infiltrators were killed as two separate infiltration bids
were foiled by the troops in North Kashmir since yesterday, marking a
sudden rise in the infiltration attempts, along the borders in Jammu and
Kashmir.
Centre sets up panel for
flood control

The Government of India has set up a panel of experts to suggest measures to find a permanent solution to the problem of flash floods and excessive silt in the Sutlej which has jeopardised the future of the 1500-MW Nathpa Jhakri project. It is the country’s largest hydroelectric project.

“human bombs” held in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, July 16
The Chandigarh Police today claimed that the two “human bombs”
arrested early this morning had plans to target, among others, Lt-Gen
R.S. Dayal. The retired army commander was responsible for the execution
of “Operation Bluestar” in 1984.
