SGPC chief to visit Khalsa college today

Khanna, January 9
Mata Ganga Khalsa College for Girls, Manji Sahib, Kotan, being run under the administration of the SGPC, Amritsar, will celebrate the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh on January 10 on the college premises, -said Manjeet Kaur, Principal of the college, here today.

She said the bhog ceremony of Sehaj Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib would be held on the day. Jathedar Avtar Singh, president of the SGPC, would be present on the occasion. After the bhog ceremony, sacred hymns would be chanted by Bhai Gurkirat Singh Hajuri, Ragi, Sri Darbar Sahib. College students would also contribute to the function by performing Shabad Kirtan and by singing traditional Vrs and Kalis. Bhai Pinderpal Singh, would preach on the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

The function would be concluded by serving Guru ka langar, she said.

Workshop organised

Ludhiana, January 9
Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Dugri road, Ludhiana, today organised a special workshop on “Importance of Attitude and Aptitude for Successful Future” for 10+1 and 10+2 students. During this workshop, the students were given tips and guidelines for attitude and aptitude development for success in job or profession.

Mr Sarabjit Singh, Director of the College of Computer and Information Technology, (CCIT) said only skill or qualifications did not solve the purpose for good employment or self-employment. Employers in the IT field were looking for the people who had an attitude as “contributors” to the organisation as well as to the society.

The workshop was organised under the direction and guidelines of the Principal of the school, Ms H.K. Chhina. She said such awareness was the need of the hour. More than 200 students took part in the programme.

Prize distribution function

Khanna, January 9
Annual prize distribution function of D A V Public School here running under the management of D A V College Management Society, New Delhi, was held at school hall here yesterday. Mrs Harbans Kaur Dullo, Parliamentary Secretary to Punjab Government, was the chief guest at the function.

The function started with lightning of a candle. Mrs. Saroj Kundra Manager of the school, delivered welcome speech.

A cultural show was also organized on the occasion. Students of different classes and English and Punjabi played dandia and in health show, karate show, giddha and bhangra.

Chief guest presented the prizes to the winners. The function concluded with national anthem.

Teachers to protest on Maghi Mela

Ludhiana, January 9
Mr Balraj Gholiti, senior advisor to Unemployed Elementary Teachers’ Union, stated in a written press note that when the Congress will enumerate its several achievements at Maghi Mela to be held in Muktsar on January 13, the ETT teachers would hold a rally and highlight the unkept promises by the Congress.

ETT teachers are preparing for this protest rally. They are going door to door and urging the family members to join in the protest rally. They have decided to “expose” the wrongs done by the Congress regime. Paramjit Mann, Inderjit Siddhu, Palvinder attended the meeting held today. — TNS

Schools in slums

Ludhiana, January 9
Mr Harnam Dass Johar, Education Minister, has appealed to slum dwellers that they should send their children to schools specially opened in slum areas as education helped an individual to reach the top in any field. Mr Johar was addressing people at Bhagat Singh dharamshala, Haibowal Khurd, after distributing 200 blankets in that area.

Mr Johar said that under the Sarv Sikhya Abhiyan , children between 4 to 14 years who were not attending schools, should get education from special schools being set up in slums.

He said that in Haibowal 200 students had taken admission into a school and on Pakhowal Road too a school has been set up. The Punjab Government has given these children copies, pencils and books, free of cost.

Einstein House win football tourney

The playground of Ryan International School was abuzz with activity as the school organised the inter-house football tournament.

“Events organised in the school are one of the best ways to highlight the talents of good sportspersons,” said Principal Jaishree Gupta as she declared the tournament open. The Aryabhatt and Einstein Houses made it to the finals and Einstein House was declared the winning team.

Winter carnival

Darshan Academy, a CBSE-affiliated school at Bhamian Kalan, Chandigarh Road, celebrated its winter carnival here yesterday. The chief guest was Mr Lakhwinder Singh , Marketing Head, Bonn Nutrients. Dr Manjit Singh Mahal and Mr Kulwant Jagraon, chief guests, appreciated their work. The models and charts made on the topic “Nature” were demonstrated and were praised by parents and visitors. A fancy dress competition was also held yesterday. A lucky draw was also taken out.
