Physical fitness camp for hockey players
Chandigarh, January 10 As many as 54 players from Tier 1 and Tier II teams have been selected for the camp to make them physically fit as well as prepare them for forthcoming tournaments like Indo-Pak series, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and the World Cup. The camp is being conducted under the supervision of coaches Harmeek Singh, V Bhaskaran, N S Sodhi, Harinder Singh and C Lobo and Sampath Kumar, Physical Trainer besides Physio Ravi from Australia. Stress is being laid on building strength, weight training, skills, discipline and punctuality. “All top players of the country have been included in the camp, which will benefit them if they follow the instructions properly,” said Mr N S Sodhi. |

St John’s emerge winners in quiz
Chandigarh, January 10 The winners will compete for the zonal finals. The national final will be held on January 28. The quiz is an initiative of the Eureka Forbes Institute of Environment (EFIE). The finals will decide the winner for the All-India Inter-School Trophy. Leading schools from 14 Indian cities — Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Ahmedabad, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Cochin, Jaipur and Hyderabad — are participating in the quiz. A host of attractive prizes and gifts are in store for winners, including certificates, trophies and scholarships (cash bond). |

Inter-school games from Jan 22
Chandigarh, January 10 The tournament is being held under the scheme “Promotion of Sports and Games in Schools” by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The school teams participating will get the benefit of gradation as well as scholarship from the Chandigarh Administration. The matches will be played between 9 am to 1 pm and 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm daily. All events will be looked after by qualified refree/umpires. The prize distribution function will take place at the Skating Rink, Sector 10. The last date for receipt of entry is January 20 with Mr K.S. Bharti, Youth Affairs and Sports, upto 2 pm. |

In another match, YPS Mohali beat Bhavan Vidyalaya B, Panchkula, by 45 runs. Batting first, YPS’s Pranav made 35 runs and Amanjeet contributed 28 runs to his team’s total of 152 for 5 in 20 overs. Tourism Dept launches website
Chandigarh, January 10 Interacting with mediapersons after the inauguration, the Tourism Secretary elaborated on various initiatives of the Administration to give a fillip to the tourism in the region. He said the aim of launching the website was to make people aware about the beauty of the city and the finesse of its architecture. The administration was working on more information about the immense medical facilities available in the city to attract medical tourism. The website of the Tourism Department launched today would provide information about North India tourism packages and also medical and rural tourism, he added. Mr Ajay Rampal, the State Informatics Officer highlighted various features of the website. The new website provided pictures and details of places of tourist interest in Chandigarh and its vicinity. |

Hoardings removed
Chandigarh, January 10 According to officials, the hoardings were bigger than the ground floor hoardings. A few of the hoardings had been removed earlier also but these had been put back. Officials said notices had been served on shopowners to remove the hoardings but they had not done so. A similar drive would be taken up in other sectors also. |
