Ashok Kumar bang on target

Chandigarh, February 5
Ashok Kumar of the DAV Management Committee won gold medals in the 50m and 30m events in archery competitions. He was declared the overall champion in the individual competition with 558 points in the 51st National School Games being held at DAV Senior Secondary School in Sector 8 here today.

In the 50m event, Ashok collected 274 points for the first position. In the 30m event, Ashok secured 269 points to bag gold medal.

Archery: Individual: 50m: 1 Ashok Kumar (DAV MC) 274; 2 Deepak Bhardwaj (DAV MC) 269; 3 Vikram Singh (DAV MC) 249; 4 Varun Sachdeva (Haryana) 215. 30 m: 1 Ashok Kumar (DAV MC) 284; 2 Deepak Bhardwaj (DAV MC) 272; 3 Vikram Singh (DAV MC) 269; 4 Varun Sachdeva (Haryana) 231.

DAVMC win in archery

DAV Management Committee emerged winners with 521 points in archery competitions yesterday.

Orissa and Rajasthan finished second and third with 508 and 501 points, respectively.

Dinesh G. Shinde of Maharashtra claimed gold in the 45 kg category in karate. The silver medal went to Sahil Sood of DAV College Management. S. Deepam of Tamil Nadu won the gold medal in the 50 kg category, defeating Abhishek Rana of DAVMC in the final.

Muninder Kumar of Assam got gold medal as he defeated Gaurav Rana of DAVMC in the final bout of the 55 kg category.

Aanchal School athletes impress

Chandigarh, February 5
The annual athletic meet of Aanchal International School, Sector 41, was held today at the Sector 46 Sports Stadium. All students from the play group to the seniormost class participated in the march past as well as track events.

Led by school captain Vishwaprem, the students marched past the audience in complete synchronisation to the beats of the drum.

Captains and vice-captains carried the standards of their respective houses. The Director of the school took the salute. Parents of the junior wing appeared overwhelmed to see the tiny tots walking smartly in colourful track suits with pompoms in hand.

All students of the school were made to participate in various games and races such as hoopla umbrella race, placement of balls, number hunt, obstacle race, 50m, 100m, 200m, three-legged, relay race and many others.

Medals were presented to the winners of the track and field events. Parents enthusiastically took part in various games organised for them.

The chief guest, Dr Deshbandhu, principal of SD College, Ambala, appreciated the inculcation of confidence in children and congratulated the principal and staff for their efforts.

The school principal, Mrs M. Sood, applauded the children for their enthusiasm and wished them luck for their forthcoming examinations.

Tarunjot, Vansh, Jasmine, Ananya, Abhishek and Sachin were the main winners among the juniors whereas amongst the seniors Vishwprem, Prayjot and Aman won the prizes.

Ajay Kumar wins title

Ajay Kumar won 12th Sub- junior Mr Chandigarh title while Raj Kumar won the 15th Junior Mr Chandigarh Body Building Champion-ship at DAV College, Sector 10, here today.

The event was organised by the Chandigarh Amateur Body Building Association, Chandigarh, in which more than 75 bodybuilders from various local health clubs and educational institutes participated.

Mr Harnek Singh Gharuan, ex-minister, Punjab, who was the chief guest, gave away prizes.

Fire Fox cycling results

Parmod and Kulbir bagged first position in 25 km trial men and 10 km trial women event, respectively, during the Fire Fox Chandigarh Road Cycling Races organised by the Chandigarh Amateur Cycling Association at the Lake Club, this morning. More than 30 cyclists took part in the cycling championship. Later, Kuldip Kumar. manager, Fire Fox Bikes Ltd. gave away the prizes to the winners.

Results:

25 km time trial men: Parmod 1, Amit Dhingra 2. Balwant 3; 10 km time trial women; Kulbir Kaur 1, Preet 2, Anju 3; 5 km mass start race boys under 14 ears. Amit Yadav 1, Gagan 2, Sahil 3; 5 km mass start race girls under 14 years: Parul Verma 1, Gagadeep Kaur 2.
