Punjab is likely to attain a growth rate of 6 per cent this year, Finance Minister Surinder Singla said today. He claimed that “sound and effective” policies of the Congress government had made the growth possible.

Concealed income of Rs 4.3 cr surrendered
Ludhiana, February 9
Following survey operations carried out by income tax officials on business premises of six industrial houses in the city and another at Mandi Ahmedgarh yesterday, the firms concerned volunteered to surrender a total concealed income of Rs 4.3 crore.

The Punjab State Veterinary Officers Association has taken exception to unwarranted interference by the Punjab Dairy Development Department in the working of the Animal Husbandry Department.

‘Punjab on fast track of development’

Master Dhiraj Pal Singh, an 11-year-old male child and a student of class 5 in a local school was leading a very happy life like other children until he started having severe pain in the back and difficulty in bending forward. His ordeal continued for about two weeks and when the pain turned unbearable, his parents brought the child to Sobti Neuro and Trauma Centre here.

Hospital staff protest

2 Army men hurt in mishap

Two Army men were hurt in a road mishap when the Ambassador car in which they were travelling collided with the fence of a canal bridge near Sudhar village last night. The injured were shifted to the Military Hospital at the Air Force Station, Halwara.

The city police today booked three persons, including a woman, for allegedly creating circumstances leading to the suicide by a youth in Lakkar Bazar yesterday afternoon.

Singla pledges more funds for sports

The 34th Senior National Handball Championship to be held from February 9 to 15 here in the indoor multipurpose hall of Guru Nanak Sports Complex, got off to a colourful start today. Mr Surinder Singla, Minister for Finance and Planning, Punjab, presided over the inaugural function.
