The marriage was solemnised between Navneet and Davinder Singh at the Milan Palace, Assandh, which had earlier been booked for her marriage with the Nilokheri boy. Navneet's relatives, who had already reached her house in Assandh in connection with her proposed marriage with the Nilokheri boy, and friends celebrated their marriage. Navneet and Davinder said their joy knew no bounds after marrying each other.
Her brother-in-law Joginder Singh Virk told The Tribune that they started looking for a suitable match for Navneet soon after she had refused to marry Hardaman Singh Bhinder as he had demanded a Honda City car in dowry the previous day.
“When he informed one of his distant relatives, Mr Sewa Singh Virk of Shiv Colony, Karnal, about the entire matter he expressed his willingness to marry his son Davinder Singh with the courageous girl,” he said.
Following the proposal, marriage was fixed with Davinder Singh, who was working with the Punjab Police and posted at Patiala. Meanwhile, when The Tribune contacted Hardaman Singh Bhinder over phone, he refused to say anything about the entire matter.
When asked at what time he had called Navneet's elder brother Harvinder Sandhu Laddi for demanding a Honda City car, he merely said he did not know anything and disconnected the phone. However, Hardaman's elder brother Tejvir Singh and his brother-in-law Harminder Singh Gill Kuki visited The Tribune office at Karnal today and claimed that Hardaman had not demanded any dowry from his would-be in-laws.
Navneet's brother-in-law Joginder Singh Virk termed their claim as an attempt to avoid humiliation. Reiterating that Hardaman had called Laddi and demanded the Honda City car, he said he had enough proof to establish that the boy had called Navneet's elder brother.
