objects to UT cadre officer as SSP

Punjab has objected to the resolve of the Union Ministry of Home
Affairs to appoint a UT cadre IPS officer as the SSP of Chandigarh by
wresting the post from the Punjab IPS cadre. Punjab’s stand is that
if this is done the Home Ministry has no right to appoint a Haryana
cadre IAS officer as the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh.

The Punjab Government will spend Rs 100 crore to bring Baba Farid
University of Health Sciences Faridkot on sound footing. The amount
will be cleared in next Budget likely to be presented in the Assembly
on March 3 and funds released before end of April.

Charles may visit Patiala

The royal city of Patiala could be gearing up for another royal visit.
A team of officials of the British High Commission, UK Government and
the members of foundation run by the Prince of Wales were in the city
yesterday for advance liasioning of Prince Charles' visit on March 27.
But the preparations and plans of the visit were kept under wraps as
city officials refused to commit or acknowledge the fact of the
Prince’s visit.

see ‘saif’, get emotional

Justice Khalil ur Rehman Ramde and Justice Rana Bhagwandas both judges
of the Supreme Court of Pakistan today got emotional when they saw the
1400-year-old ‘Saif’ (a weapon), preserved at Takht Keshgarh
Sahib, belonging to Hazrat Ali, son-in-law of Prophet Mohammad Sahib.
The ‘Saif’ was presented to Guru Gobind Singh by Mughal ruler,
Bahadur Shah Zafar at Agra.

cleared for Pak boy’s repatriation

He strayed into Indian territory three-and-a-half years back, but
could not be restored to his family as he was too small to recall his
address properly. The district administration’s efforts have now
borne fruit and Asif, a Pakistani boy lodged in the local juvenile
Jail, is all set to be repatriated on February 12. He will be the
second Pakistani boy to be repatriated in less than two months.
