Question paper printed again after leak

Chandigarh, February 16
After the reported leak of the Class VIII Hindi paper of the examination conducted by the UT Education Department, harried students today attempted the question paper that had questions entirely different from those which were leaked.

While teachers on duty said the new question papers reached them in the morning, Mr D.S. Mangat, DPI (Schools), maintained that it was a rumour and no question paper had been leaked.

According to sources, the question paper had been leaked and a new question paper was printed late last evening.

The font, paper quality and printing results were different from the question papers printed earlier.

Confusion prevailed among students and parents, who expected the paper to be cancelled.

The students were told in the morning that the paper had not been cancelled as the new question papers had arrived.

A total of 8,000 students were appearing in the Class VIII board examination and the department had set up five nodal centres and 48 examination centres.

Farewell to seniors

The outgoing class X students of Ishwariya Dev Samaj Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 21 were yesterday given a farewell by the their juniors of class IX.

A cultural programme was presented on the occasion which included songs, dances and skits. A modeling session was also held. The school Principal, Dr Sumati Kanwar honoured the outstanding students and wished them luck for their future endeavours.

A farewell function was today organized for class XII students of Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22.

The programme began with the beating of dhol, followed by giddha, Punjabi dance and a skit highlighting the problem of unemployment. During the function, a number of prizes, including the most punctual students, Miss Beautiful and Master Shishu Niketan and Miss Shishu Niketan were given out.

The school magazine, ‘Shishu Bharti’ was also released on the occasion by H.S. Lucky, Deputy Mayor, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. He wished the students success in their future endeavours.

MOHALI: Students of class XII of Shivalik Public School, Phase VI here were given a farewell by class XI students, school management and faculty.

The class XII students came attired for the coveted titles. After a close contest, the honours went to Sukhveer Kaur who was declared Ms Shivalik, Ankit Aggarwal who was Mr Shivalik, Gaurav Rana who was Mr Personality, Kimpreet Kaur who was Ms Charming.

Mr. D.S.Bedi, Director Principal of the school exhorted students to move towards exalted goals in their professions with confidence. Ms Hardip on behalf of all teachers wished the students well. The school head boy Ankit Agarwal and Mandeep delivered a vote of thanks on behalf of outgoing students.

A party for outgoing students of Classes XII and X was organised by Ajit Karam Singh International Public School, Sector 41, here on Tuesday.

Trophies for the best dressed boy and girl were awarded to Aditya Palyal and Harsimran Kaur respectively.

Piyush Gambhir and Karanbir Kaur bagged the trophies for best all rounder from the science stream, while Agampreet Kaur and Shifa Mahajan were adjudged best all rounders from the commerce stream.

The Miss and Mr AKSIPS trophies were presented to Agampreet Kaur and Piyush Gambhir of Class XII.

SGGS College win quiz

An inter-college quiz on Biology was organised at Government College, Sector 11. Vinapati Yumna and Shivali Sharma of SGGS College stood first while Shivani Rana and Kalpana Bhandari from MCM DAV College remained second and Shveta and Jyoti from Government College, Panchkula, were declared the third.

An exhibition-cum-lecture was also organised at the college on the “Gadar Movement” and its role in the freedom struggle by the department of History in collaboration with the Department of Punjabi. Dr Sukhdev Sharma, Head of the History Department, welcomed the speakers, Dr Prem Singh and Ms Dalbeer Kaur, both trustees, Desh Bagat Yadgar Committee, Jalandhar.

Principal Pahlad Aggarwal thanked the speakers.

One convicted in kidnap, rape case

The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mr B.K. Mehta, has sentenced Jeevan, a resident of Mauli Jagran, to seven years of imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a girl of Mauli Jagran. The victim had been taken to Uttar Pradesh on the pretext of getting a job for her in October 2004. The police had registered a case on the complaint of the father of the girl.

Stay extended

A local court on Tuesday extended the stay order on the vacation of the government house in the possession of a former DGP, Haryana, Mr A.S. Bhatotia, till February 21. Earlier, the stay had been granted on the Sector 7 house till February 14. The former DGP was living in the house allotted by the UT Administration to the Haryana pool.

3-yr RI for PGI storekeeper

The Additional District and Sessions Judge of the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court, Mr Jagdeep Jain, convicted the storekeeper of the PGI and sentenced him to three years’ rigourous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 9,000.

Sources in the CBI said Gian Chand, storekeeper at the PGI from 1991 to 1995, was accused of misappropriation of records amounting to Rs 3.5 lakh.

According to the sources, the CBI had booked Gian Chand in 1998 for criminal breach of trust, fraudulently defacing documents, maintaining improper balances and entering extra quantity of articles in invoices.

Arguments end in Bikramjit case

Arguments in the corruption case against former Punjab Home Secretary Bikramjit Singh concluded in the court of the CBI special judge here today.

Charges would be framed on the next date of hearing.

The CBI had registered a corruption case against him when he was Principal Secretary to the then Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Plea rejected

The CBI special court today rejected the bail application of Chandigarh police Chandigarh Polic Sunita Bakshi, arrested a few months back in a corruption case.

On an earlier date, the CBI had opposed her bail application on the plea that she was threatening the complainant.

No work today

On a call given by the Delhi Bar Association, work in local courts would remain suspended tomorrow.

District Bar Association president N.K. Nanda said lawyers would abstain from work tomorrow.
