Paswan launches Dalit yatra in UP
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, May 6
With an eye on the next year's Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) President Ram Vilas Paswan today launched a yatra to mobilise the support of Dalits and Muslims.

Announcing his decision to field LJP candidates in all 403 Assembly constituencies as against 15 in 2002 elections in Uttar Pradesh, Mr Paswan said the Dalit Alpshankyak Adhikar Yatra would cover the length and breadth of the country's biggest and politically important state in the coming months.

The first phase of the yatra would cover western Uttar Pradesh, he said.

The Union Minister said Dalits and Muslims, who jointly comprised 43 per cent of the population in the state, could change the political scene of Uttar Pradesh.
