New Delhi, May 6
There is some good news for commuters as the Haryana Roadways employees decided to call off three-day-old strike today following a long-drawn meeting between the state government and union leaders that carried on almost till midnight.
While the roadways buses will start plying from tomorrow itself, the controversial Volvo bus service issue, which is the core of the entire problem, will be discussed in a meeting between Transport Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala and the union leaders on Monday in Chandigarh.
Today’s meeting was attended by state Chief Minster Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who along with Mr Surjewala and political adviser Virendra Singh, conducted talks with the leaders from four unions, including the INTUC and the Sarv Karamchari Sangh and Mahasangh.
As an interim measure, it has now been decided that all cases against the agitating employees will be taken back. The government has also given an assurance that protesting employees who were hurt in agitations will be given Rs 5,000 each, said an official here.
