CM lays stone of NIIFT building
Mohali, May 8 The building is being constructed on 4.75 acres of land in Industrial Area, Phase I, at a cost of about Rs 7 crore. A sum of Rs 5 crore had been released by the Punjab Government in March. NIIFT has been functioning from a rented accommodation for the past 10 years. The Punjab Government had allotted six acres of land in Industrial Area, Phase I, in 1996 for the construction of NIIFT campus and a hostel. However, due to non-availability of funds NIIFT was not able to construct its own building. NIIFT was set up in 1995 by the Department of Industry and Commerce, Punjab, in collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi. |

DAV-8 kids told about first aid techniques
Panchkula, May 8 The students were also educated about various First Aid procedures to be followed in such situations. According to the school principal, the students also learnt about other activities of the Red Cross like helping destitutes, injured and providing the preliminary medicare and requirements to the victims of floods, droughts and other disasters. They were also trained to apply medicine and tie bandages on wounds of victims of fire and accidents, the principal informed. |

Training programme for KVs begins
Chandigarh, May 8 According to a press note, the Principal of the host school, Ms S.K.Bhatia, welcomed Mr S.S.Sehrawat, Assistant Commissioner, KVS, Chandigarh Region, and senior officials of the regional office and delegates. Mr Sehrawat inaugurated the training programme by lighting the traditional lamp. As many as 50 Principals of Kendriya Vidyalayas located in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh are attending the programme. |

Farewell party at engineering institute
Dera Bassi, May 8 Mr Avtar Singh and Ms Kanwaljit Kaur, chairman and director of the institute, respectively, were the chief guests on the occasion. Kanishk Chawla and Lakshikha Vaid were declared Mr Sukhmani and Ms Sukhmani, respectively.

Scholarships given to
55 rural students
Chandigarh, May 8 An amount of Rs 22,000 was disbursed to awardees selected on the basis of merit and economic status. The chairman of the Servants of the People Society distributed the scholarships and asked the awardees to inculcate a spirit of togetherness and mutual respect. Gp Capt P.S. Soni, secretary, explained the background of the scholarship scheme and hoped that more donors would come forward to provide scholarships for students studying in rural schools. |
