Chartered accountants’ body in talks with counterparts in Singapore, UK

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is negotiating with its counterparts in Singapore and UK for mutual recognition of chartered accountant courses offered by them, according to T.N. Manoharan, ICAI president.

If the discussions are successful, it would help chartered accountants in India work in foreign companies, he told PTI.

The talks with the Singapore Institute are at an advanced stage and would be signed soon, while that with the institute in UK were in the preliminary stage, he said.

Manoharan said that the ICAI, with 106 chapters around the world, is revising its curriculum to suit globalisation.

Subjects including foreign fund handling and preparation of project reports had been introduced with the help of some multinational companies, he said.

The new course content had been submitted to the Ministry of Company affairs and Finance Ministry for final clearance, which would be done before November.

The ICAI planned to open nine more chapters, including one in Rajmundry this year. The ICAI would open one chapter in Canada and Australia where the demand for CAs was going up, he said.

He said the ICAI has advised its members to feed all their papers, presented at seminars, in the ICAI website so that there were no complaints of plagiarism.

He also urged the chapters to utilise the funds meant for library.

The institute planned to bring out a 20-minute film, CD, brochures and posters on CA course to attract students from schools, he added. — PTI
