Mumbai, June 13
Amitabh Bachchan’s family is again in the news with reports of the Income Tax Department sending notices to Jaya and Abhishek Bachchan with respect to certain investments made by the family.
According to a television channel, the IT office here has sent a notice to Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan, asking her to file her returns of a company, Lotus Investments, owned by her for the past 12 years. The report said Amitabh and Jaya, along with the former’s brother Ajitabh, were on the board of the company.
Amitabh has held that the ownership of the company has since been transferred to Ajitabh.
Reports also said that the IT Department had queried Amitabh’s son Abhishek about his permanent account number.
Till late afternoon, there was no confirmation of the reports from the IT office here.
Meanwhile, fans of Bachchan backed by activists of the Samajwadi Party held protests outside Aaykar Bhavan in downtown Mumbai in protest against what they called harassment of the superstar.
The protesters, wearing dark sunglasses, shouted slogans against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
