Chandigarh, June 13
A suspected grenade blast in a firing range of the Army at Bhojraj village in Hisar district of Haryana today claimed four lives, according to official sources. Another five were seriously injured in the blast. It is learnt that the villagers had gone to the firing range to pick up scraps when the grenade exploded.

Sources said the villagers, when they first heard the deafening noise, thought it to be an explosion triggered off by the Army. However, soon they heard loud wails coming from the side of the firing range.

The sources said the four persons who died in the explosion were Rajesh (18 years), Bobby (27), Jasbir (12 years) and Harpal (35).

The state government announced Rs 1 lakh as compensation to the next of kin of Rajesh and Jasbir. Bobby and Harpal, being adults, are already covered under the Rajiv Gandhi Insurance policy and their families will receive Rs 1 lakh each.

The government announced Rs 10,000 compensation for the injured and said it would bear the entire expenditure of their medical treatment.
