BKU seeks adequate power for farmers Ludhiana, June 24 A deputation of the union, led by acting president Manjit Singh Kadian, met the chairman and member (distribution) of the Punjab State Electricity Board at Patiala to apprise them with the problems being faced by farmers on account of erratic supply, low frequency and frequent tripping due to overload on transformers. Mr Kadian said the urgent need for replacement of all overloaded transformers of 25 KV and 63 KV was emphasised. They were also asked to make available additional transformers where 100 KV transformers were also overloaded. The board was also urged to take over the responsibility of maintenance of all such transformers that were installed by farmers under self-financing scheme more than two years ago. The BKU functionaries urged the PSEB administration to strictly monitor power supply from grids to rural feeders in the wake of widespread complaints of several irregularities and corrupt practices in the system. Alleging that the promised 8-hour uninterrupted power supply was not being provided to the farmers at many overloaded substations, the deputation asked the authorities that arrangements be made for shifting the load from such substation to elsewhere without any further delay so that the entire farm sector was assured of uniform power supply and the agricultural operations were not hampered, Mr Kadian added. |
