Talent hunt for kids

Ludhiana, June 27
A search for country’s youngest superstar kicked off here today. The talent hunt contest is being conducted by Rin Advanced. Under the programme, a nationwide competition will be held that will provide a platform to children in the age group from 5 to 14 years to showcase their potential in singing, acting and dancing.

The winner will get a scholarship of Rs 5 lakh. Auditions will be held in schools. Top 50 contestants from across the country will then vie with one another and will be judged by a panel of judges. Entry forms will be available with packs of Rin Advanced. The last date for sending the entries is July 31. — OC

Training for DIET teachers

Prof Baldev Singh, teacher training coordinator, District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Jagraon (Ludhiana), monitored the 10-days Teacher Training Programme being organised in various schools of the district, Government Senior Secondary School, PAU School, multi-purpose school, Chanan Devi School Jagraon Boys and Girls Schools, Galib Kalan and Sidhwan Bet.

He said these were being held under the directions of the State Project Directors, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Punjab and the SCRET, Punjab, Chandigarh. The main objectives of the training was to bring quality improvement, building teachers, capacity and engineering change in their behaviour, as per the challenges of the 21st century-based on new teaching techniques.

The coordinator said that through this training, teachers were being sensitised so that they could teach students, particularly girls, with application of educational psychology. During the training, for next two days they prepared a question bank and question papers in English, maths, environmental sciences, Punjabi etc. During the last four days, they would prepare innovative Teaching Learning Material (TLM) in all subjects to make teaching learning process interesting. The best material would be selected on the last day in the TLM exhibition.

He said the teachers were attending training under the team leaders, Miss Paramjit Kaur Sidhu, Mr Kulwant Singh, Mr Lakhwinder Pal Singh (EGS), Mr Prem Singh, Ms Rashpal Kaur, Mr Santokh Singh, Ms Kirpal Kaur, Ms Indu Sehgal, Mr Vijay Kumar (EGS), Ms Neelam Kumari, Ms Chander Prabha, Ms Baljit Kaur (Egs), Mr Harpal Singh and Ms Gurwinder Kaur.

Teachers to meet Parishad chief today

Ludhiana, June 27
A delegation of Government Primary Teachers’ Association, Punjab will meet Ms Mahender Kaur Dhangia, Chairperson, Zila Parishad tomorrow.

Mr Piara Singh Dhillon, president of the association, said today that they would discuss the problems after allotment of new posts to the primary teachers. He said that the Chairperson was astonished at the injustice to the teachers as many teachers have been posted far away from their homes. The Chairperson said that ADC had allotted the stations so he would be invited to the meeting as well.

Mr Dhillon said while giving appointing these teachers, the government rules were violated. He said that ADC had not taken into consideration either the merit of the teacher or the requirement of the. He said the teachers should be given postings according to their merit. He said that if the problems about appointments were not redressed, the teachers will hold a protest against the ADC.
