Death toll seven; air and rail traffic hit 

Mumbai, July 4 At least seven persons have died in Mumbai following heavy rains since Monday morning, according to information available with the Disaster Management Cell set up by the Maharashtra Government to oversee rescue and relief operations. People wade through a waterlogged street at Dadar in Mumbai on Tuesday as heavy rain continued for the third day disrupting normal life. — PTI photo

5 die in landslide
Khab (Kinnaur), July 4
Four migrant labourers and an Army driver were buried alive in a landslide which triggered due to blasting by the General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to widen the National Highway-22 near Khab today.

Supreme Court stays High Court order on right to information issue
New Delhi, July 4
Seized of an important question of law whether inspection of records of any government agency under the Right to Information (RTI) Act could be permitted by courts, the Supreme Court today stayed an order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court permitting inspection of state Public Service Commission records by a candidate who had failed in the PCS Executive class appointment exams six years ago.

DGP cuts fuel line for misused vehicles
Chandigarh, July 4
Upset over the misuse of vehicles by senior Punjab Police officers, the Director-General of Police, Mr S.S. Virk, has ordered that no fuel should be provided for vehicles that are in excess of the original allocation to an officer.

B.Ed entrance test now on July 15

Panjab University has rescheduled the joint B.Ed. Entrance Test-2006 from July 8 to July15. Over 40,000 students are likely to appear for the B. Ed. test for admission to over 114 B.Ed. colleges in Punjab. The university officials have also decided to change the printer responsible for printing the question papers for the B.Ed. entrance test. — TNS
