Chandigarh, July 11
The hosts Chandigarh lost their opening qualifying round match in Cluster G to Uttar Pradesh 1-2 in an equally contested league match in the third Junior Girls Under-17 National Football Championship being played at Punjab Engineering College here today.
The other winners of the matches held today were Tripura, West Bengal and Assam.
In the match between Chandigarh and UP, it was UP, which drew the first blood in the eighth minute through Pinky Sharma. Chandigarh hit back with vengeance and restored parity in the 41st minute. However, Uttar Pradesh just managed to snatch the match-winner through Pinki Sharma in the 52nd minute.
In Cluster F, the hat-trick by Shyamali Debbarma helped Tripura to demolish Delhi by 12-0 in qualifying match. Another team from North-East states, West Bengal also thrashed Rajasthan by 16-0 in Cluster E.
Tripura, which dominated the proceedings the whole time, hit the first goal in the eighth minute through Shyamali. She again struck in the 12th and 15th minutes to complete her hat-trick.
Swarana Rani also contributed three goals in the 42nd, 68th and 69th minutes. The other goals came through Bhaghya Debbarma (44th minute), Namita Debbarma (35th and 67th minute), Kalpana Debbarma (55th) and Anita Debbarma (57th).
The pressure was so intense that Roshni of Delhi scored a “self goal” in the 65th minute.
In the other match, West Bengal thrashed Rajasthan by 16-0. Soma Kalpalik, was the highest scorer with her four goals (9th, 12th, 40th, 76th) in a one-sided match.
Kalpana Roy struck thrice in the 19th, 42nd and 74th minute while Shuli Roy (14th, 23rd), Rojina Khartoon (22nd, 10th) and Aparna Sarkar (48th, 79th) scored two each. Monika Jana (67th) and Srabani Bairagi (34th) scored one goal each.
Rajasthan also conceded a self goal as Happy Sharma, while trying to clear the ball, guided it into her own goal in the 32nd minute.
The last match of the day, played between Assam and Gujarat, was won by Assam with a huge margin of 28-0.
Captain Purnima Das struck 14 goals, including a hat-trick, to seal the win.
