The Punjab Bank Employees Federation held a demonstration in support of their demands, including withdrawal of the Reserve Bank of India's recent circular on outsourcing of banking services, at the Clock Tower here today.
The employees said they would participate in the nationwide
strike on July 28, a call for which has been given by the

Polluting unit leaves residents fuming

The four-year-long struggle of residents of Hira Nagar to get a polluting unit shifted from the residential area has not yielded anything with the former still knocking at various doors, while the owners of the unit are having a field day.

The final inspection of the proposed grain market at Jagera Road by a high power team of revenue officials, led by Mr S.R.
Ladhar, Deputy Commissioner, Sangrur, renewed hope among residents of this area who had been demanding shifting of the old grain market to a more spacious place for three decades.

The president of the All India Shiromani Akali Dal, Mr Jaswant Singh Mann, said today that the Panthic Coordination Committee (of the splinter panthic groups) was in the offing. He said, various groups were coming together for the same.
Woman dies in wall collapse
Ludhiana, July 11
A 60-year-old woman and a four-year-old boy were crushed to death when a wall collapsed on a group of labourers and their families in Sunder Nagar on Sunday. Four girls were injured also.
2 killed, 7 hurt in road accident

Ex-lover booked for kidnapping woman

The Sadar police have booked Harjit Singh of Manupur village under Section 364 of the IPC on the complaint of Mewa Singh of the same village for allegedly kidnapping his wife Karnail Kaur.
