DIMT students on summer training

Ludhiana, July 27
The third batch of the MBA of Doraha Institute of Management and Training (DIMT) have been undergoing training in industrial/services organisations as part of their summer internship.

In a press note today, institute director Dr R.S.Gupta said students had joined six to eight weeks summer training at Ludhiana Stock Exchange, G.S. Auto Ltd, ICICI Bank, Kashmir Apiaries Exports, Ralson India, Vardhman Special Steels, Nahar Spinning and Exports, Oswal Woollen Mills and Oyster Ltd.

The students have been working on various projects in marketing, exports, finance, HRM and will complete internship by July 31.

Academic session begins

The inaugural function of the new academic session was held in Guru Nanak Auditorium of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College here recently.

Addressing the assembly, Dr P.S. Kapur, former Pro-VC of Guru Nanak Dev University, dwelt upon the importance of faith and identity.

Ruing the prevalence of apostasy among Sikh youth, Professor Kapur advised students to feel proud of their religious and cultural heritage and exhorted them to return to their faith.

Principal Tarlochan Singh welcomed students and touched upon the history of the college.

He advised them to maintain the sanctity of the college and pursue their goals and objectives with sincerity.

Prof R.P. Singh, Dr J.S. Chanbra, Prof H.S. Batra and Prof Rajinder Singh spoke on various facets of a student’s life in the college. It was followed by a prayer.

Special lecture

The NCC unit of the GCW here organised a special lecture today under the guidance of NCC in-charge Capt Narinderjit Kaur Saini to inculcate patriotism and generate awareness in cadets.

College Principal Prabhjot Kaur welcomed the guest speakers.

Speaking on the occasion, Colonel Deol talked about the aim of the NCC. He highlighted the importance of NCC certification. He also appreciated the efforts of Narinderjit Kaur Saini.

Dr Major Ganesh, branch officer, threw light on the avenues for cadets in joining the Army.

Colonel Deol and Major Ganesh also answered the queries of students. Cadet Kirandeep presented the vote of thanks.

Ms Gurnoor Brar of Government College for Women, who was adjudged the best cadet during the national integration camp held at Kufri recently.

School celebrates ‘Fruits Day’

Doraha, July 27
Tiny tots of Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School celebrated ‘Fruits Day’ today.

The kids wore dresses according to the fruits brought by them. They also spoke on the nutritional value of fruits. With an aim to impart practical knowledge to the students, the teachers tried their best to familiarise the children with various fruits, their colour, size, shape, taste and their importance for health.

Similarly, students conveyed the message of eco-friendly environment by celebrating ‘Green Day’. Kids of KG dressed up in green costumes and recited rhymes on the subject. They encouraged the audience to plant more saplings, to eat nutritions green vegetables and thus prayed for the nation’s prosperity.

The Principal, Ms Urmil Sood, and incharge, kindergarten section, Ms Supriya, appreciated the efforts of the kids and encouraged them to actively participate in such programmes to polish their talent and gain awareness about their 
surroundings.

Personality development workshop organised

The Desh Bhagat Institute of Management and Computer Sciences organised a personality development workshop on the DBIMCS campus. Mr Anil Sharma, manager (personnel), from Nahar Spinning and General Mills delivered a lecture on “Industry-academia interface” in this connection.

Dr Zora Singh, chairman, presided over the one-day workshop. He asked students to learn about good personality development and industrial management.

Mr Anil Sharma apprised the students about latest changes taking place in industrial management and emphasised its need to meet global challenges in the industrial sector. He added that time had come to do away with the traditional systems of business because of the computerised environment in all spheres.

Mr Anil Sharma advised the students to have a burning desire to grow and succeed in life and added that one has to be serious in his/her efforts for attaining the goal of his life and the goal of his/her organisation where he/she works.

He also elaborated at length for the development of good personality, which requires good knowledge, self confidence and dedication, good dress sense and good communication skills.

Students’ plea to protect environment

Mandi Ahmedgarh, July 27
Feeling concerned over the maintenance of biodiversity, students from 19 schools of the Western segment of Ludhiana district urged leaders of various social, educational and political organisations to take steps to maintain ecological equilibrium. The occasion was a seminar on “Conservation of biodiversity – prospects and concern”, organised at Government Senior Secondary School Dehlon today. Mr Virender Kumar Shrama, District Science Supervisor, Ludhiana, presided over the seminar.

Gaurav Jhamb of BCM Arya Senior Secondary School Shastri Nagar Ludhiana, Simran Preet Kaur of GGN Public School Rose Garden Ludhiana, Ashwinder Kaur of Guru Nanak Public Sarbha Nagar Ludhiana and Niharka Arora of Sacred Heart Convent School Sarabha Nagar Ludhiana were felicitated for achieving the first four positions in the contest.

Ms Ravinder Kaur, Mr Naresh Kumar, Ms Amita and Mr Sandeep Kumar (all biology experts) had a tough time selecting the outstanding speakers. The best speaker will participate in the district-level contest scheduled to take place at Government Multi-Purpose Senior Secondary School Ludhiana on August 3, informed Mr Sharma.

Mr Balwinder Singh, principal, Mr Balwinder Singh, lecturer, and Mr Baljit Taggar spoke on the occasion.

Seminar to improve skills of schoolchildren

Ludhiana, July 27
Jiabacus organised a seminar on a brain development programme based on language arithmetic here today to improve the skills of students of schools. It starts with the use of abacus. After constant practise in a structured manner, the beads are formed in the mind of the children and they can start calculating mentally. This process is called imagery and enhances a child’s ability to calculate with speed and accuracy. To create more awareness the Jiabacus staff will be available at the KFC, Ansal Plaza, Ludhiana on July 29 and 30.
