Chandigarh, August 14
The general body of the PGI Employees Union Chandigarh, today approved the decision of the executive body of the employees of expelling eight members, Mr Subhash Chander, Mr Jagdish Singh, alias Jaggi, Mr Gurcharan Singh, Mr Ram Pal, Mr Bal Krishan, Mr Jarnail Singh, Mr Manohar Singh and Mr Balraj Sharma, from their primary membership.
In a press note Mr Sat Pal Bhardwaj, president of the union, said that these members had been expelled for their illegal, unconstitutional, anti-trade union activities and corrupt practices.
Though none of the members had filed the statuary appeal before the body but four of them tried to disturb the general body meeting. The resolution for their expulsion was passed unanimously in the meeting. Four of the expelled members opposed the decision.
The Ad Hoc Front, of the PGI Employees Union Chandigarh, however, termed the expulsion of eight members from their primary membership of the union unethical.
A press note issued by the chairman of the front claimed that the decision of the union stood nowhere. The decision that was taken by 25 members of the union had no legal sanctity, he added.
Mr Jagdish S Jaggi, senior vice-president of the front, claimed that false charges had been leveled against them.
The front members raised objections on the manner in which the resolution was passed. Copies have been sent to the PGI director and the police in this respect, said Mr Subhash Chand.
