Travel agent penalised
Chandigarh, August 22 Earlier, complainants K.D.Sharma and his family had filed a complaint stating that they approached Evergreen Travels, Sector 34, Chandigarh, on February 15, 2005, for buying air tickets in one month advance to travel from the city to Mumbai on March 17, 2005. Instead of giving a single flight tickets or tickets of same airline, the travel agent issued tickets from Chandigarh to Delhi of Jet Airways and from Delhi to Mumbai of Sahara Airways. The flight of Jet Airways was scheduled to reach Delhi at 3:10 pm and the Sahara flight from Delhi was scheduled to take off at 3:45 pm. When the complainants reached the Delhi airport, they were refused boarding on the Sahara flight to Mumbai as passengers were required to check-in at least one hour before the scheduled time. The complainants had to buy new tickets for the next Air Sahara flight scheduled at 6:00pm by spending Rs10,635. The District Forum-II had dismissed the complaint holding that the complainant should have checked the tickets themselves. The counsel for the complainants filed an appeal against the orders before the state commission. While setting aside the order of the District Forum-II, the commission held that the "respondent is a service provider in the field of airline ticketing. It must be aware of the rules of the airlines of which tickets were issued by it. A layman does not know that the passengers should report for boarding a plane at least 60 minutes before the departure. Evergreen Travels has been directed to pay Rs 10,635 to the complainants along with Rs 3,000 as costs of the appeal. |
Mangal's film on drug abuse ready
Chandigarh, August 22 He was on a location hunt in his home state for 'Shahaadat'. A conversation prompted him to switch over to the docu-drama. Months of research and travel across the state took him to a variety of people, situations and de-addiction centres. He found it hard to convince addicts to appear before the camera and talk of their experiences with drugs. The findings show a strong nexus among peddlers, politicians and the police.“The root cause is that we have become disconnected with our faith, leading to compulsions and dependences.”The film will be ready for screening by September end . Dhillon's views, albeit simplistic, give credence to his own strength of faith. "If faith does not cure, it gives you hope. I do not know if this film will change those already under the influence of drugs, but it will influence others, of that I am sure." Does this film-maker believe documentaries like this impact on the masses? "All I can do is to keep trying." However he is determined to make as complete an effort as he can. "I have written to schools, colleges and even village 'sarpanches' of Punjab to organise special screenings of the film so that youngsters and those in rural areas can be forewarned and get the necessary inspiration to say no to drugs." In the pipeline is also a film that draws from his research and travels for 'Sarvnaash' and deals with the issue of faith-healing. |
