Chandigarh, August 22
Upcoming local cricketer Uday Kaul has started making his presence felt in the higher circles of the game. The talented wicketkeeper and left-handed batsman has just returned from England, where he had gone to represent the country in the Under-19 team.

A good performance by Uday at England has resulted in his selection for the coming Under-19 bilateral series at Pakistan starting in September. In England, he played two one-day matches and one four-day Test.

In one-day matches, he scored unbeaten 58 and 62 whereas in the Test match he made 46 not out. He was given an opportunity in only one Test out of the three, played by the team.

This was Kaul's first experience of playing matches on the foreign soil. Terming his visit a learning experience, Kaul said, "For an Asian player, playing in the tough conditions in England is really a challenge.

The pitches were slow but having a good bounce which was totally different from the pitches of India. Apart from that, the weather was quite helpful for swing bowlers. We all learnt a lot".

Earlier, Uday was part of the team which participated in the Asia Cup (Under-17) held here in the country in 2003. His double ton (208) against the UAE and 91 against Pakistan brought him into limelight.

In 2005, he made his debut in the Punjab Ranji team with a bang as he hit a century (105) against Jammu and Kashmir while playing four Ranji Tests last season, his average was
35 runs.

"For the coming Pakistan tour, I am increasing my practice time. The experience at England will definitely help a lot there", said Uday, who is getting training from Sukhwinder Bawa at DAV Cricket Centre, Sector 8.

Uday has honed his skills under the supervision of his father Tej Kaul, an ex-physio of Team India.

His father, who is working as SAI cricket coach, is well aware of his son's forte and weaknesses as well. "High concentration level and commitment towards the task are Uday's strong points but he has to work hard to improve further his strong points", viewed
Tej Kaul.

The PCA coach Bharti Vij, who has observed this upcoming cricketer in many zonal and PCA camps, has all praise for Uday's consistent performance.
