GMCH celebrates annual function
Chandigarh, September 9 The function started with a welcome song by students after the chief guest, Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal, Union Minister of State for Finance, inaugurated the function. He appreciated the functioning of the hospital management. He said the hospital had helped in curtailing extra load on the PGI. He also released a college magazine. Prof H.M. Swami, Principal-Director, GMCH, read out the annual report and highlighted the achievements of the hospital in various fields. The students were given prizes for their performances in various fields. |

Football academy drub Punjab association 8-0
Chandigarh, September 9 In the eighth minute the CFA earned a penality stroke and Randeep scored the first goal. After conceding the goal Punjab lads came up with couple of good moves but lack of coordination spoiled the chances. For the CFA the second goal came through substitute Maninder in the 36th minute of play off a cross from the right flank by Gurtej. In the 42 nd minute Gurtej scored the third goal. The other scorers were Maninder, who scored two more goals, Ravinder, Rinku and Jaspal. The second semifinal between the football Academy, Hoshiarpur, and SAI East, Kolkata, was washed out by rain. The academy team was leading 1-0 upto the breather. Gurvinder scored the goal in the 31st minute. The remaining part of the match will be played tomorrow at 6.30 am at the Sector 42 sports complex. |

Sec 16 stadium to host ICC Trophy practice matches
Chandigarh, September 9 Finance cum-Sports Secretary S.K. Sandhu today reviewed the arrangements for the upcoming matches at a meeting held at the stadium. The upgrading includes renovation of the players’ dressing rooms, toilets and restaurant, media block, seating area, sitting stands, scoreboards, screens, etc. These would be ready by September 20. Mr R.K. Rao, Deputy Commissioner, Mr Dinesh Bhatt, SSP (Operations), Mr Inderjeet Sandhu, Director, Sports, Mr V.K. Bhardwaj, Chief Engineer, and Mr Vivek Atray, Director, Public Relations, along with some senior officials were also present. It was decided that entry points to the stadium would be identified by the Engineering Department. The department would put up signs for different blocks after assigning a particular alphabet for each block. The entry will be regulated by the Chandigarh Police. The Engineering Department would provide necessary drawings of the open spaces, which would be used as parking area around the stadium. Mementos will be presented to the best batsman, best bowler and man of the match for both matches along with the team members. |

Anurag, Akshay star in St Stephen’s win
Chandigarh, September 9 Batting first, St Stephen’s-posted 129 for 3 in the stipulated 20 overs. An 89-run partnership for the second wicket between Akshay Sharma and Anurag bolstered the St Stephen’s innings. In reply, Air Force 3 BRD was bundled out for 37 runs in 12 overs. Brief scores: St Stephen’s School-45: 129 for 3 Air Force 3 BRD: 37 all out in 12 overs In the second match, Stepping Stone-37 routed St Xavier’s School-44 by nine wickets. Pawan Kumar was the star performer for Stepping Stone as he slammed an unbeaten 50. Stepping Stone reached the target 88 in just 12.3 overs at the loss of one wicket only. Earlier, Xavier’s batted first and made 87 in 20 overs. Varun Birla and Varun Kumar were the main wrecker.
