Auction for school sites today

Chandigarh, September 11
The first public auction of school sites in the Union Territory is scheduled for tomorrow at Hotel Shivalikview, official sources said here today.

The Administration has fixed a reserve price of Rs 15,907 per square yard. The biggest plot for the auction has an area of 8,854 square yards in Sector 45 for which the reserve price works out to be Rs 14.16 crore.

The Association of Private Educational Institutions in a representation to the Chandigarh Administration has said that the reserve price is exorbitant.

COURTS

Gaganjit’s judicial remand extended

Chandigarh, September 11
A local court today extended the judicial remand of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Gaganjit Singh Barnala till September 25 today. He was earlier arrested on charges of raping a maidservant at his official residence.

Mr Gaganjit, who is the younger son of Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, was produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate Harpreet Kaur.

Earlier, a DNA report by the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL) on Mr Gaganjit was found to be negative. Also, Additional District and Sessions Judge R.S. Baswana has dismissed Mr Gaganjit’s bail application.
