3 members of family, 2 others murdered Jammu, September 18 Those murdered have been identified as Mr Rajesh Bhushan Chopra, who had cement business, his wife, Mrs Madhu Chopra, and college-going daughter, Saloni Chopra. The driver, Jagan, and servant, Sonu, were found murdered on the top floor of the house near the Shiv temple. The motive behind the murder was not known, but police claimed that preliminary investigations point towards some business rivalry. Chopra had a couple of cement factories in the state. His two sons were studying in Australia. A senior police officer said the murdered persons appear to have been drugged before they were hacked. Chopra's face was badly mutilated as he was hit with some heavy object. Hands and legs of all of them were found tied and their mouth was gagged by the assailant who later escaped in one of the vehicles of Mr Chopra. The gold ornaments on the bodies were not touched and neither there were signs of efforts to break locks of the cupboards, police said. Police said that the assailants have not left behind any clue. The murder was noticed at 9.30 am when a nephew of the slain person came to their home. He informed the police immediately. Bodies of the women bore deep wounds inflicted with some sharp weapon. The bodies have been sent to the medical college hospital for postmortem. The parents of a doctor of the PGI, Chandigarh, were murdered in the same locality here about five years ago. |
