Health authorities swing into action
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, October 7
Taking a serious view of the news item published in the Chandigarh Tribune, the UT Health Department and the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), has finally acted and carried out a dengue prevention operation.

The Assistant Director, Malaria, alongwith his team took a round of the PGI and the forest area behind the hospital. The team noticed a leaking sewerage junction in the complex that was creating a mosquitogenic situation.

Water logging and mosquitogenic spots were treated with larvicides. Fogging operation was also carried out in and around the hospital complex.

The Punjab Engineering College and its surrounding areas were the second main complex where teams from the UT Health Department conducted a field operation. A sewerage junction and a tube-well in the college was found leading.

The unhygienic situation has been looming large at the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH). Water coolers and dustbins in the complex have become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Almost all water-coolers installed in these institutions have gathered moss and trash around them. Pigeon-droppings have been welcoming visitors and patients quite often.

A press note issued by the UT Administration claimed that special stress had been laid at the CTU, Punjab and Haryana Roadways workshops, scooter and cycle repair places.

The UT Health Department today issued notices to defaulters in all the zones of Chandigarh. Two fog-generators were deployed for carrying out fogging operations in Industrial Area Phase I and II, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Punjab and Haryana Secretariat, Vidhan Sabha, and Sectors 2, 3, 37, 38, 39 and 40.
