New Delhi, October 13
It is a tad belated, but the notification that specifies a ban on child labour has finally been issued.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment late last night released the final notification that bans children under 14 from working as domestic help and from waiting tables in eating joints.
The Tribune on October 9 had first reported that the ministry had overlooked an important legal formality that of issuing a notification that bans child labour across the country from October 10.
In a notification which has just been made public, the ministry says no objections and suggestion were received from the general public within a three-month period from the date of the issue of the notification of intent.
Legal experts had earlier criticised the ministry for not issuing a notification announcing the ban a day before it actually came in effect.
