Global bids for ski village project
Shimla, October 17 The six sites being offered for various activities include golf courses at Baddi in Solan and Raison in Kulu, a health resort at Jhatingri in Mandi, a spa resort at Craignano near Shimla , tourist resort near Saketi Fossil Park and co-tourism project at Shoja in Banzar. However, activities proposed were only tentative the private parties who were keen to take up tourism ventures in the state could come forward with alternative proposals. For instance, if a party feels that a golf course was not feasible and proposes to set up an amusement park at the site it will be given due consideration. A committee has been set up to finalise the terms and conditions on which the projects are to be assigned to the private sector. The various proposals being considered are build operate and transfer (BOT) and long term lease on terms and conditions which ensured maximum returns to the state. The decision of the government to allot of the Himalaya Ski Village project without inviting bids early this year had triggered a major controversy. Having burnt its fingers once the department would not repeat the mistake, said a senior officer. |

BJP leaders for political solution to Kulu dispute
Shimla, October 17 Party sources said former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, in-charge of party affairs in the state, and central election officer O.P. Kohli have conveyed to the state Election Appeal Committee and leaders that the only way to resolve the bickering in Kulu was to find a political solution to the issue. As such, on the recommendation of the party high command conveyed yesterday, the committee has decided to put off a final decision on disposal of complaints from Kulu. The district election has also been put off. While leaders like former Education Minister Karan Singh had met the Election Appeal Committee four days back at Mandi and put forth their views, the rival camp led by sitting MLA from Banjar Khimi Ram, rebel BJP candidate from Kulu Govind Thakur, and former Nagar Parishad chief Ram Singh met the committee here today. It is being felt that if the election dispute is resolved now, it will only aggravate matters in Kulu, which will not augur well for the party that is hoping to make a comeback in the next Assembly elections. The trouble started when Karan Singh was denied party ticket from his traditional Banjar seat and shifted to Kulu Assembly segment to adjust Khimi Ram. |

BJP for CBI probe against minister
Shimla, October 17 The demand was made after the meeting of the legislature party under the chairmanship of former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal here last night. The BJP MLAs said that being a minister it was not possible for any state agency to probe the allegations in a fair manner. They asked Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to dismiss Mr Singhi Ram, who in the wake of such serious allegations should have resigned on his own. The BJP MLAs said that during his entire tenure there had been several allegations against the minister. “The matter does not simply get over with the Chief Minister stating that the allegations will be probed as Mr Singhi Ram being a minister can influence any inquiry by a state agency,” said BJP leaders. The BJP Legislature Party also expressed concern over the allegations by the minister’s sister-in-law that he had got her husband married again and was now threatening her. |
